The Boston Red Sox hadn't had serious discussions with Edwin Encarnacion's camp as of Sunday, according to Major League sources.
Dave Dombrowski has said that the Red Sox would prefer to replace David Ortiz either in-house or with a shorter term contract.
Ortiz has previously endorsed Encarnacion as his possible replacement.
