In this week's edition of Mass Dispatch
The Mass Matter is the first week of “Beat The Commish” and my Ass-Kicking.
Ask Howard discusses hostile users and Expanding the Forums.

In “Inside The Administrator's Office” over the past few weeks, I have been mentioning that I wanted to add a Moderator on a growing NBA Team Forum. This week, all is revealed including the newest member of The RealGM Moderator Team.
Let's get right to The Mass Matter.......
The Mass Matter: “Beat The Commish” Week 1 Results
This past week was an opportunity for our Users and Moderators to “Beat The Commish”.
Everyone competed against me in an NFL Pick Em Contest where we all attempted to pick The Winners of all 16 Week 1 NFL Games.
Unfortunately, for me, I only went
9-7
this past weekend and while that was good enough to beat some users, "The Commish" as in me got beat bad.
It was way worse then one of the ass-kickings I consistently get from my Niece who is only a Toddler. She thinks it's funny too.

Note: Both Geoffrey P. and John Black got the combined Monday Night Points tiebreaker with 84 points. I had 83 and missed it by one thus losing to both.
The worst part is I got beat by own fellow Administrator dream34.
I simply got my ass kicked in Week 1 but “Beat The Commish” is a 17 week plus playoffs marathon and I am coming back strong next week.
I'll have full standings including who won The Users vs. Moderator point for Week One later tonight.
For now, I ask that all participants get their Thursday Night picks in.

General Off-Topic Board Moderator Geddy Asks: Running a forum as large as this you tend to deal with a lot of angry posters, and people who like to criticize the way the board is run. For example a post like the following from an unnamed poster:

How do you stay positive among all that?
Howard's Response: I've been Moderating on these Forums for over 13 years.
Sometimes users have a bad day or do not want to follow the rules. In fact, I've even had death threats and one User said he was going to “riot” in my hometown. That same User probably would have fallen into The Atlantic Ocean on the way here.
I simply do not take the crazies seriously.
You just deal with it and hand out discipline if needed.
If a User is upset about something, they can make a post on The Feedback Forum.
Nored Asks: What are your plans when it comes to growing the other sports boards on this forum?
Howard's Response: As you can see above and in the past few editions of Mass Dispatch, I am currently working on ways to grow our NFL Forums.
Sometime this month, I will be having another Who Wants To Be A Moderator? Invitational this time for an NHL Forum. It will also allow me to see much interest there is as I've always felt we went with individual NHL Forums way too soon.
Come the start of the next MLB season, we will have another Invitational and have some other things planned as well that I will reveal at that time.
I am also closely monitoring our Soccer Forums and hope to expand them little by little in the near future.
For now, I plan to focus most on our NFL Forums.

Our Green Bay Packers' and San Francisco 49ers' Forum Game Threads
Just above, I mentioned some game threads that had activity.
But what our Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers Forums had in terms of game Thread Activity blew all of the other team forums away.
Our Green Bay Packers forum game thread had 593 posts this past Thursday

Both threads were the length of most NBA Team Forum game threads.

Inside The Administrator's Office
For the past couple of weeks, I have mentioned that I was planning to add another Moderator to a growing NBA Team Forum.
I am very happy to announce that I have selected a Moderator for that forum.
Earlier this year, I asked a User if they would be interested in being a candidate for a Moderator position on our Detroit Pistons Forum. They unfortunately declined to be a candidate at that time.
After he declined, I looked at several users who were mostly new but definitely had the potential to be a Moderator.
However, when Snakebites agreed to come out of retirement, it filled the need for the time being but I still wanted to add someone before the season started.
Before I re-started my search, I contacted the User who declined and after a PM exchange and a chat, I finally had found a new Detroit Pistons Forum Moderator.
I am proud to announce dVs33 as the newest member of The RealGM Moderating Team.
He is a great user who I am confident will take on a bigger leadership role as a Moderator.
And he actually had one General NBA Board Strike but that has now been repealed. It was his only violation but it also shows how a User can get a General NBA Board Strike, a Warning or even a suspension and one day go on to become a Moderator.
Please join me in congratulating dVs33.
