People are running into Pirlo all over NYC. He is wearing a yankees hat and everything. His move is def official. He is will be made official on Friday.

Key interesting fact: NYCFC wanted a younger designated player for the last spot, but Manchester City outruled them and got Pirlo to come here.

He is a great player and I am so going to get his jersey. It's my boy Pirlo!

We are also on a decent winning streak. Hopefully we keep it up in time for Pirlo and Lampard when they join

They keep reporting that Pirlo and Lamps will play on July 12 vs TFC. This is the game I had bought tickets for to see Giovinco play. :droop:

dear lord thats a terrible football team we got

David Villa and sorta that Mix cat who at least works hard even if his feet are made of brick

but #24, our defender
hes an embarrassment to the sport. His spacing, marking, touch on the ball, everything is pure garbage

and right now at least we have zero midfield game

this team falls apart after 45 mins because they have no midfield and run back and forth all game

its embarrassing really

hopefully Pirlo and Lampard can provide some quality there

Terrible move in my opinion. He's a very good coach that deserved to be given time with this flawed line up.

New York City FC sign midfielder Federico Bravo on loan from Boca Juniors

Image

New York City FC on Saturday announced the signing of Argentine defensive midfielder Federico Bravo, on loan from Boca Juniors. The 22-year-old will remain with NYCFC through the end of 2016, pending receipt of his international transfer certificate.

Bravo has made 37 appearances for the Boca first team since 2013 and sees MLS as an exciting place to continue his career.

“This league is growing rapidly and is an exciting place to play.” Bravo told NYCFC.com. “My position is defensive midfield, but I can also play in central defense. I will give 100% on every play and support the team wherever necessary.”

“This is a great club to be part of, I can feel that already. I joined up with the group a few days ago and everyone is focused, working hard and looking forward to the start of the season. We hope to have a good year.”

NYCFC head coach Patrick Vieira praised the player's versatility, though both him and sporting director Claudio Reyna both spoke of him primarily as a defensive midfielder.

“Federico is a good passing defensive midfielder who can shield the back four. He’s played over 35 first team games for Boca Juniors in a very competitive league,” said Reyna. “We’re getting a player with good experience that can provide depth and qualities we need.”

New York City FC expect Frank Lampard to miss season opener due to injury

Image

New York City FC are about to embark on a new season with a new coach and a new system.

But it appears they will also begin Year Two as they did Year One – without Frank Lampard.

The veteran midfielder, whose first season in MLS was hindered by a late start and injuries, is likely to miss Sunday’s opener against the Chicago Fire (2 pm ET, MLS Live) with a calf strain.

“I think I’m not concerned at all because he will get better,” NYCFC coach Patrick Vieira said. “It’s just a question of time. Of course I would like to have Frank on the field training with us. That will give me one more option of players to use.”

Lampard, who also suffered a calf strain and a quad injury a year ago, wasn’t on the field for Thursday morning’s training session and is still working indoors with the training staff.

“He’s getting better, but not good enough to take part in the session today,” Vieira said. “We just have to analyze the situation day after day.”

Vieira also said he has no intentions of rushing Lampard, who only played in one preseason match.
