Figured this needed it's own thread separate from the international one.

Fellow mods, if you feel this belongs in the International Basketball thread instead, feel free to move it.

Seems like our WNBA forum is/can be expanding beyond its parameters to include the broader women's game, but I'm fine either way.

Thanks for setting this up!

Here is the roster for the USA. I'll try to find other rosters because there's talent all across the board

https://www.usab.com/teams/5x5-womens-olympics/roster

I'm not sure why A'ja isn't on the roster though. She's our #1 player

Either way...MURICA!!! God help the teams in our pool, they are gonna get cooked

Hey sure thing. Yeah there's way more competition on the men's side but with the women's game growing it should be more competitive overall.

Sucks to be in Group B... Australia, Canada, and France? Nigeria has completely stepped up their basketball funding in the past 5 years too. That's a bloodbath.

By contrast... boy did USA ever get an easy draw. Japan (9th) is by far their highest ranked opponent. I forget how Germany qualified for this tournament.

I was reading up on Nigeria, they've been pretty dominant in Afrobasket. I love their team name, "D'Tigress". Give them a few years.

Regarding USA, we can only play who they put in front of us

Yeah Olympics are great fun. Love it.

For basketball, it's always about which teams Spurs play for. So last Olympics I was obviously cheering for US and then Australia for Patty.

This year it will be France for the men. Women, not sure yet.

I follow Canadian teams in all sports and certain European ones for the heritage.

So lots of viewing and cheering options.

Thank goodness it's in France where the time difference is more reason for us in EST.

France is frightening on the men's side. I don't think that gold is assured for the US guys at all.

For the women, I'll be pulling for France since Marine Johannes is playing for them.

You seem to have misspelled 'For the women, I'll be pulling for Australia, since Lewisnotmiller could use the support in a tough group...'

;)

Speaking of which, met Bec Allen last night. Still one of the keys to the Aussie team.
Hoping she gets a clear run with injury.

Yep Allen is awesome, I loved her when she was on the Liberty. I hope she'll be playing this summer

Whilst not the real stuff, quick shout out to the Aussie Women's 3x3 team (the Gangarrus) who qualified for the Olympics last night, following a tough win over the Canadians.

What's the meaning behind that name?
