French national team for Olympics games ! what do you think?

Postby remi_222 on Thu May 10, 2012 3:48 pm

Vincent Collet, the french head coach gave a list of 18 players who will play the O.G this summer in London ! The final roster of the 12 players should be :

PG : Tony Parker (San Antonio Spurs), Rodrigue Beaubois (Dallas Mavs), Andrew Albicy (Gravelines, great defender !! )

SF SG : Nicolas Batum (Portland), Nando de Colo (will play for Spurs next year), Mickael Gelabale (former Sonics and Lakers)

PF C : Joakim Noah (Chicago), Boris Diaw (San Antonio), Ronny Turiaf (Miami), Ian Mahinmi (Dallas), Kevin Seraphin (Washington)

What do you think of this roster ?? the first game for Team USA will be against France ! :D

Roster is great, but France is not on the level of USA, Spain. This might be the best France in years, but their problems are old very well known. The lack of team play culture, chemistry, smart coaching. Maybe France will prove me wrong, but that's what usually keeps them out of the medal zone. They are playing similar game as USA, but are not that good as USA :D While such teams as Spain not only has individual talent, but very great connection and basketball culture. That's why such teams as Lithuania, Greece could overcome France in the past even if those wan't individually superior.

Maybe the most athletic team of the tournament USA included, but also one of the lowest BB IQ too, plus poor 3pt range...

Exatly this one also! If France would have some deadly shooters also, they could be some hell of a force.

I thought I had read where Beaubois would not be playing for France this year. Maybe when reading about Cuban and his anti-Olympics statements.

Batum can be a pretty deadly shooter.

Team chemistry and shooting have really improved in French NT. Remember they went in Final in the last Euro, and earned silver medal.
I think they can challenge Spain this year. They are probably better than last year with the great improvement of Seraphin, Batum, De Colo. Core is stronger and team is deeper.
The biggest concern is cornerstone players health. TP seriously injured his eye, and Noah's ankle is worrying.

I was reading an article today about Parker, and it does not appear likely that he will play for France. His eye injury almost caused him to go blind, which was far more serious than the initial assessment as per media sources. Nothing is set in stone at this point, but he is flying back to New York to see an eye doctor, and I am guessing he will make his decision from there. Obviously, the Spurs don't want him playing.

Parker is the engine that drives that machine. If Tony is gone or even not playing like he did at last year's EuroBasket, French won't have a chance at a medal.

Noah won't play Olympic Games, bad news for us he was our only 7 footer available at this level.
Seraphin will be the starter, quite the same level in defense, better offense but not as good as a rebounder.
This will be hard for this team without Noah's elite rebounding, we used to struggle in this area by the past

Good to see Parker is going to play, and too bad about Noah.

Anybody know the final roster?

PG : Parker (Spurs), Bokolo (Gravelines)
SG : De Colo (Spurs/Valencia), Causeur (Tau Vitoria)
SF : Batum (Blazers), Gelabale (Khimki Moscow), Kahudi (Le Mans)
PF : Diaw (Spurs), Pietrus (Valencia)
C : Seraphin (Wizards), Turiaf (Heat), Traoré (currently injured but on the list) (Lokomotiv Kuban)

Missed the call :

Cuban policy : Beaubois, Mahinmi (Mavs)
Injured : Noah (Bulls)
Coach decision : Diawara (Varese), Albicy (Gravelines), Gobert (Cholet), Westermann (ASVEL), Tchicamboud (Chalon), Vaty (Gravelines)

Defense oriented team, great athleticism but gonna be tough for bronze medal since there's an undersized frontcourt.
