Seems Sabonis youngest son is gonna be stud. 6'9'' C/PF only 16 years old but already shows mobility, great passing and elite rebounding. He is one of young european players worth to keep eye on. He is training now with pro team Unicaja in Spain. Teams from NCAA already interested in him.

You can definitely see he has an understanding and feel for the game.

I could see him on live twice and he is really somebody to take into account....

Some comments... He is a 4 and they are trying to drive his evoluation into a 3-4... He does not look like very good in anything but it is almost imposible to find a bad point in relation with any other guy with 16...

I´ll keep an eye on him

Wow, he had a 27 rebound game  in 32 minutes.

He looks very agile and quick for his size. Like father like son, huh..

He looks like he really has a good feel for the game. Doesn't look overly athletic though. He seems to run the floor well, he just doesn't seem to get OFF the floor that well. But the kid is still 16. Westbrook couldn't dunk until his senior year now he is one of the best leapers in the game.

His dad wasn't the best leaper but he was 7'3". Be interesting to see how much taller this kid gets.

Edit: Actually his dad was a decent leaper before injuries.

You can't tell when a guy is 16, especially with this level of competition. He will probably be an NBA player, but might be the next Ostertag. Impossible to say at this point.

He played first game against pro's with Unicaja in 6 mins 2 rebs. I hope he gets more burn as time goes for 16 years old playing against grown men ( and very high level) is very valuable.

The Russians were able to shut him down pretty effectively in the last game...only 12 points (5/12 gf) and 7 rebounds along 4 turnovers (tourney high for him)

Also, he didn't make a single blocked shot in the 5 games that he played. He does position himself good to grab rebounds but timing and ability to block shots is something he will have to work on if he ever wants to be a true defensive presence (and make it to NBA).

Just got outplayed by 212 Kristaps Prozinkis from Latvia in 1/4 finals:

Sabonis in 33 minutes 11+10+2+2 on 5/7 fg vs
Prozinkis in 31 minutes 17+8+6bs (should be couple more)+3st+1 on 8/16 fg

He's a wide pivot, left-handed, great presence on court. Strong rebounder, able to find shoot positions with low post hooks. He can play open and shoot. A complete player.

Final stats in u16 champs: 14 points 11.4 rebounds.

I've had the chance to talk a bit with him and he's a very nice kid, but he's a long way away from receiving serious NBA attention.
He has pretty poor body language when things don't go his team's way and a couple of scouts I've spoken to aren't a fan of his jumper and his ability to guard 4s in the NBA.

He's not getting a lot of playing time in Euroleague & ACB, which for a 17 year old is understandable I guess. I'm just wondering if practice alone with grown professional men is better than say, playing in a lower competition and getting more playing experience against inferior players.

Already made Euroleague debut, gets around 12 minutes per game when plays. Its ok, he is not exactly rotting on the bench, hes coming along. Looks like Unicaja was a good choice. Euros has to go through transitional season, seems like this one is his.

Quite an efficient performance against reigning Euroleague champions Olympiakos Piraeus.

4 points (2/3 shooting), 4 rebounds (2 offensive) & 1 assist in 11 minutes of playing time.

Pretty active hands, doesn't seem lost on the defensive end which is surprising for a player his age, very good fundamentals and knack for the boards. Not a very great athlete in terms of leaping ability or sheer speed, but has good lateral quickness to stay in front of his man on defense. Good motor and hustle, always tries to grab every offensive board possible. Can't be certain, but from the looks of it, he already seems to be closing in on 6'11". Also seems to be adding strength and filling out his frame.

Might be a first round pick in a couple of years or so. If he improves his shot both at midrange and the charity stripe, he has a good chance to become a lottery pick.

OP, could you edit the title of this thread to Domantas Sabonis thread or something? It might be easier to find during the years if someone decides to follow his progress

Also, some highlights and comments about Domantas (both in Spanish and English):

With more size & a mid-range shot he could become a pretty good PF @ his present height. If he continues to get taller, he could probably play the 4 & the 5 in the NCAA.

He's 6'9" - 6'10" barefoot, that's clearly above average for a college PF or even center.

Which NBA position do you believe he is best suited for?
