As per chabber:

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine
NBA's 30 teams just notified that Brendan Haywood has been claimed on waivers by Bobcats.

Pretty sure Haywood's production could have been covered from some undrafted dude like N'Diaye.

9 points and 10 rebounds per 36, and shooting over 50%. And he's not young, which is something they wanted too.

We finally **** Dallas over!

Well not really, but I can pretend. Hopefully we won with 1-2m a year and Cuban is paying out his rich ass.

No reason Gana couldn't do what Haywood will bring us.

And we are already paying him.

This is a decent move. Bonnell was right on the money, props to him. So I'm assuming we won our claim in on him through the amnesty process, right? I wonder how much we bid. He will be a good vet big-man for depth. Not sure how well we will do with the run and gun, but solid depth. The guy wasn't a total black hole last year. He did averaged 5 ppg, 6 rpg, and 1 bpg in 21 minutes. Not terrible, in fact I would be happy with that production from a big off the bench here. Plus he has legit C size.

If we claimed him off amnesty then that means we have him for this year and 2 years after it. Assuming we got him at close to a million, maybe 2 million, that's good value. Also a local guy who I'm assuming wouldn't have too much problem coming here at this stage in his career.

If the Scola thing is true, I wonder if Tyrus amnesty is an option. We are setting ourselves up to have 45 million in capspace at the end of next season

I'm sorry but no way in hell do I ever see Gana getting anywhere close to even 5/6/1 in 20 minutes...not saying those are great numbers, just saying Haywood>>>>>>Gana.

Haywood is at least fluid enough to catch an alley oop or do a jump ball. Diop acts like the tin man from Wizard of Oz whenever he is on the court. Hopefully its only for 2 or so million

gana averaged 3 points and 9 rebounds per 36 last year and was injured up and stuff. haywood probably moves a bit better, and averaged 9 points and 10 rebounds per 36 last year.

Rick Bonnell ‏@rick_bonnell
The #Bobcats have successfully claimed center Brendan Haywood off waivers. Presumably, they have their starting center.

I don't agree with this. I think Bonnell is too focused on making Biz a 4. Does Haywood have mid-range game? I would assume very limitedly so...

Well, we have a couple of options.

Waive Diop, amnesty Tyrus
Keep Tyrus, amnesty Diop

If we're seriously interested in Scola, I think we'd have to waive Diop and amnesty Tyrus.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

It's whatever, he's an above-average player that got better through the years. Should give us much needed size and rebounding, a good body to throw at guys too big for Biz, and a hometown connection to bring some more tarhole fans to the games.

Still wish we had a 4 that could bang though.

Bonnell has a point. Remember Theo Ratliff? He would start for a couple of minutes, just enough time to do the tip-off. I can see Haywood starting, playing 4-5 minutes, and then Biz/Mullens comes in.

I can also see Haywood being useful as a Hack-A-Shaq machine.

Bismack is most definitely a C. Did you see how much weight he packed on? He is trying to become an immovable object down low

No, Haywood is a garbage man more or less. Tips, put backs, some drop step. I wouldn't cringe if Haywood took an open 15 footer, but I wouldn't expect it to go in much either.

He used to have absolutely the worst hands I'd ever seen coming out of college, I mean literally hands of stone. Made Biz look like Jerry Rice. But he's gotten competent in that dept.

David Aldridge ‏@daldridgetnt
Charlotte's winning bid for Haywood, per league source, was $2.05M.

If true this will be a pretty reasonable contract.

Haywood for 2.05M per for 3 years isn't bad. I'll take it. Don't often get 7 footers for that price.

EDIT**** I thought we had to pay that on the remainder years of his deal? Is this just for next year?

Will help take some pressure off Bismack. While he has packed on weight and should be able to handle the beefier guys, it's nice to have a big 7 footer who is actually competent and can mark them while Bis gets some rest.

Carolina ties don't hurt either
