Although biased, I tend to agree. Picks, when used, lose a lot of value. And I'm not a huge fan of the Hornets' current roster, so its a really tough call. But ultimately, you hope to convert those assets into a star to build around. Kemba could turn out to be that guy, but right now its too early to tell.

But point being, what in free agency will give you that kind of trade value? I dont think Big Al will, simply because he'll need to be paid to go to Charlotte, and as his contract winds down, his age will be in the early-mid 30s.

And to be fair, I think the Hornets - if they wanted to go this route - wouldnt have much trouble flipping Bogut to a new team and cash in on whatever value he has, be it midseason or pre-season. Honestly, as a W's fan, I wouldnt even offer that many unprotected 1sts... its too random, and it goes far beyond our current contracts and even hypothetical contracts (Dwight). In 5 or 6 years, who knows what our team will look like, and we're giving those picks away? Not a smart move IMO.

Here's a more relevant question - if we were to make a trade with the Lakers, and the Lakers dangled Bogut's expiring contract for capspace + X, what is X to you? lotto protected 1sts? 2nds? A low level prospect? I feel that's more realistic, because the right deal could potentially get the Lakers under the luxury tax.

I would much rather do this than sign Big Al. Bogut is cheaper, expiring, and comes with picks? Hell yeah.

I agree with you on Big Al but unless one of the picks are in the '14 draft they will be about worthless.

the currently discussed trade is a total fantasy. 3 unprotected firsts is just an offer floated up on a cloud and has no basis in legitimate trade terms. that being said, i would love to acquire those 3 unprotected firsts from any franchise in the whole league, so long as it coincided with a serious beefing up of european scouting by the bobcats, so that they could draft & stash and have a nice pipeline of talent from across the pond.

I personally would prefer Bogut than Al Jefferson, a lot tougher defensively and a hell of a lot better team player.

(when healthy)

Bogut, Klay Thompson for cap space????

Count me in.

Kemba,
Klay,
MKG,
Zeller,
Bogut,

I'd enjoy watching that.

Can't see GSW getting rid of Klay.
