Apparently one of the marketing execs basically said that the team will be the Charlotte Hornets THIS upcoming season. apparently we made a deal to purchase/acquire the name sometime last year/season and so the process is already well underway. said something about this being one of Rufus's last performances etc.

anyway, take it for what its worth (not much really). im not usually a big rumor spreading guy but usually i dont hear them that close to the source...so i dunno.

I hope this is legit...

I do find it odd that Adam Silver gave a respond at the season finale vs. A "no comment", then Sabates comes out in support, then a few days later Dell Curry also expresses support for the Hornets name.

How awesome would it be if New Orleans renamed their team to be the New Orleans Salt Lakers or something Utah related just as a giant F-U to the Jazz organization?

It would be even funnier if they named the team the New Orleans Polygamist or New Orleans Mormans too

I am going to go ahead and buy a Bobcat snapback now. That way when we do change the name back to the Hornets I will be ahead of the curve when the Bobcats finally become stylish haha

Hopefully this isn't violating any rules, but I think this is very interesting and relevant. A poster emailed Paul Lukas who run's ESPN's Uni-watch and is definitely in the "know" of jerseys. Here was the email sent (and this basically a synopsis of the thread):

Paul,

There has been a big movement in Charlotte to get the Bobcats to re-re-brand to the Hornets and New Orleans is wanting a change as well.

A quick trip here to the NBA draft section - http://store.nba.com/search/index.js...A/2836124&sr=1
shows nothing about the Charlotte Bobcats, a team that could possibly win number 1 overall.

Couple that with the fact that the Bobcats team store has EVERYTHING 60% off and I'm starting to wonder. I know the team sucked last year and theres a chance that they just want to dump the gear and they know no one will pay full price. But my question to you is, do you know of any re-brand coming down the line. Maybe not the Hornets switch, but just a Bobcats color re-branding and jersey change.

I know you can't go spilling secrets to random fans on the internet, but I will even accept vague ominous hints.

Thanks,
Nic Watson

The response from Paul came 2 minutes later:
No, I can't. I would say that your logic is not far-fetched, however.

Very interesting I think. Complete credit goes to "Mustachio" over there. I think it is very odd that we are the only team without jerseys for sale and through a separate email to the NBA Fan store it was confirmed that it was NOT a mistake and that they were simply "out of stock" of Bobcats gear. At this point I think it's probably safe to say that some kind of change is taking place. Whether it be another re-brand of the Bobcats gear, or perhaps even a move to the Cougers (a name Charlotte owns). We'll see, but at the least it is a very interesting development.

If they change to the Gay Sloths I'm suing, dammit. That's my intellectual property.

If anything, it will buy MJ some time to build this team the right way by appeasing all the bandwagon casuals for a season.
