#WorkHarder: The Tyrus Thomas Thread

Post#1 » by fatlever » Tue Feb 21, 2012 5:15 pm

for arguments sake, lets say cho decided he wanted to trade tyrus rather than using the amnesty on him this summer and rather than keeping him around in hopes he improves. what are some realistic trades?

tyrus for blatche? - this one has been discussed by fans, maybe by teams. salaries are similar and both players need a change/

tyrus for marvin williams? read today marvin wants a trade. he has one year less than tyrus at a similar salary. he is also a better player. since he is better and has a better contract, the hawks would probably want more in return. tyrus and white for marvin?

tyrus for luke walton? lakers get a better player, bobcats get salary relief.

tyrus for villanueava? both players are huge disappointments and need a change, charlie has one year less.

tyrus for biedrins? beans has one year less.

tyrus for thabeet? no brainer, thabeet has team option next year. free money.

tyrus for nocioni? another no brainer, free money.

tyrus for josh childress? josh makes a little less, same years.

tyrus for francisco garcia? more free money

tyrus for richard jefferson? one less year, more money per.

tyrus + augustin for paul milsap? kinda makes sense for both. milsap probably leaves utah in 2013 when his contract is up considering the tons of young bigs on that roster. dj is great compliment to harris and talent upgrade at guard where they could use some depth. tyrus gives them some of what they lose in milsap.

Blatche is an interesting player, but I don't think he has the right attitude. Of that list i'd do the Biedrins or Marvin Williams deals. Maybe Nocioni, just for the money.

Could be the optimist in me, but I think Marvin could work out for us. Not very interested in Blatche. Love any deal that gets us out of the contract while preserving our amnesty, but not sure how many teams would take the risk on Tyrus to allow us to do that without throwing in something valuable, like a pick.

we would have to toss someone in to make them take the tyrus for marvin because tyrus is just that bad and we lose the ability to amnesty TT with marvin. still I would do the deal in a heartbeat which means the hawks wouldnt touch it.

The key issue here is what team would TAKE Tyrus in any deal? His rep is so damaged due to his play this year (plus previous underachievement), our only hope is to take back a similarly questionable player. In Fat's list of possibilities, I could see the Blatche or Charlie V scenarios accepted by those teams; maybe the Lakers for Walton, but little else without a big sacrifice on our part. I don't believe Utah would deal Milsap for T2 & DJ, but I'd want a pick back for DJ in any deal.

I know most here do not like Blatche, but I've previously supported a trade of Tyrus for him, and still do. He's a better player than Charlie V, has more upside/youth to support us for those contract years, and can slide to the 5 or play the 4. Frankly I still would be surprised if the Wiz would make that deal straight up. I mean really, Tyrus is HORRIBLE right now.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Just to be clear, Tyrus as recently as last year was a solidly better than average player. I personally wouldn't bet on it but one could make an argument that this year is an outlier and he will start to play better.

Any of the above deals that save us money would be good IMO, time to cut our losses.

tyrus for blatche? - Blatche is my kind of player so yes.

tyrus for marvin williams? - Yes. Really works for both teams; two talented guys that need a new place to start over.

tyrus for luke walton? - Want a 2nd rounder with that.

tyrus for villanueava? - Lol no

tyrus for biedrins? - Lol no

tyrus for thabeet? - Mullens 2.0. Yes sir.

tyrus for nocioni? - Sure

tyrus for josh childress? - I always liked Josh in ATL. Yes to this.

tyrus for francisco garcia? - Yes

tyrus for richard jefferson? - Nah

tyrus + augustin for paul milsap - Yes

What about this deal between us and Lakers.....

Charlotte deals Tyrus Thomas and DJ Augustin for Luke Walton and both Mavs and Lakers first rounders.

Then Lakers can deal Bynum and Gasol to Magic for Howard and Hedo.

The lakers depth chart would then be....

Augustin- Blake- Fisher
Kobe- Goudelock
Hedo- Artest- Barnes
Tyrus Thomas- McRoberts
Howard- Murphy

then they could amnesty Artest and let Augustin expire after this year and make run at Deron Williams... but prolly not enough room still...

Bobcats end up getting rid of Tyrus and finish with 3 first rounders...... allow us to build around Kemba, Hendo, Biz, Anthony Davis and 2 other first rounders........ may be able to package picks for second late lotto pick....

Magic dump Hedo..... and get Bynum and Gasol to start to rebuild around.

I like it as well, and I personally don't think its bad value wise for the Lakers.

*edit: just looking at $$, Lakers would have to use the Odom TPE to absorb the TT contract to make it work.
Might put them off as that TPE could be valuable in a Dwight trade

I could see them trying to shove Blake down our throats instead of the TPE

This trade would make much more sense if the Lakers and Magic deal went down first I think.....

The Magic would have to use Bass trade exception on that deal. Leaving the Odom TPE available to us.

Then they would need to fill the vacancy left at Power Forward, with Tyrus, but they would probably rather take Boris because he is expiring and leave them more salary next year to land Deron Williams. Then we would take back Walton, TPE both Mavs and Lakers picks while also giving up DJ Augustin.

I mean we could always deal both Boris and Augustin and then amnesty Tyrus if we wanted, but I would force Tyrus at them first. Either way we get two picks back with really only one year of salary to pay for it.

Honestly it makes sense for all three teams.

It would just be whether they wanted to land Tyrus long term or Boris for one year. I think Tyrus would be an okay fit though because he blocks shots and can hit the midrange jumper for them, but Boris would stretch floor better for them around Howard.

Could you imagine the shooters they would have all of sudden around Howard and Kobe.

TT from last year would fit perfectly with Kobe and Dwight. Energy shot blocking guy, hits the mid range jumper, not going to be depended on for consistent scoring.

But this years TT is hard to sell. Last year I believe most of us would have scoffed at this deal.

We could work a way to take Artest off them to make salaries match, and give back something else valuable.

I'd be okay with that I guess. He could backup Kemba down the road.

Do an Artest/Mags switch. Artest in Charlotte would generate some lulz.

Only if we can get Jermaine O'neal and Stephen Jackson somehow. Then I'll be happy!

I´m with camp amnesty Tyrus when needed or at least keep him till we have to or till he starts playing better somehow and gets some value (his contract will get shorter and shorter too) unless the trade is a no-brainer . I can see we could get a troublesome player which could redeem himself with us for Tyrus but if not we would be in even worse situation as we couldn't amnesty the new one. We won't get a young player to pan out for future (except Thabeet-like) or better player.

We have no other use for amnesty as if it is not Tyrus than it would have to be someone expiring next year and that doesn't make sense.

Players acquired after new CBA are not eligible for amnesty.
