Charlotte Hornets - The Brand Returns!!!

Post#1 » by fatlever » Sun Feb 26, 2012 5:46 pm

by now i am sure most of you have seen the petition to bring the hornets name back to charlotte. its been on facebook for the past week or so. since its something that is being discussed i figured i would start a thread in case anyone here wanted to share their thoughts on the subject.

personally i am not in favor of chasing a pipedream. if a new owner decided to buy the hornets and changed their name, then i would probably be OK with bringing that name back, but that is a HUGE if. i would never openly fight for a change. i think that just promotes negative views towards this current team. there is no guarantee that the hornets would ever be willing to give up that name and therefore getting ones hopes up over such a change is counterproductive. all this does is give more ammunition to the fair weather fans in charlotte as another reason to boycott the bobcats. why give people hope for something that has such a low probability of happening?

here is a article from the observer today

Combine the two names. Horcats or Bobnets.

We can combine orange, purple, and teal for the colors.

If it happened I would giggle like a school girl but honestly I don't think it's worth chasing either. I'm one of the few apparently that likes the name Bobcats (especially over the others in the running that sounded like WNBA names like Flight).

Pure conjecture but I feel like the franchise has tried to make tiny concessions over the years to get some of those bandwagon ex-Hornets fans like dropping the orange jerseys to the more Hornet's palette color of blue (hate our blue jerseys) and later adding pin stripes. If Rufus gets wings next year I'll know my conspiracy theory is true.

Keep Bobcats. Just give us black uniforms (as seen here . . . )

I want the Hornets name back because I've lived here since the beginning and seen them through it all. All the memories of the Hornets and how great the crowd was at the Hive was awesome. We need that back. I don't think it will happen but its always good to dream about it.

However, I wouldn't mind keeping the Bobcats name if we drop that blue color and substitute in black instead. Those black uni's are nice. I think our team would be better off with Black and Orange as its main colors.

I don't want the name. Mostly because it wouldn't make us the same team as the old Hornets. That team is in NO right now. Teams change names and location a lot, and I'm fine with that. But why would we want to pretend we were that team? We aren't, we're a different team.

Hate the idea of changing the team name to the Hornets. We are the Bobcats damn it. It is our identity. Why mess with that?

You can add me to that group too. I love the name the Bobcats.

If the team isn't enough of a joke, we have a **** petition going to change the name to one from a completely different franchise. Talk about perpetuating the stereotype.

Slam the bobcats name simply does not have a positive idenity, the name sucks, and it is related to a horrid owner. it has no relevance to the area, and a absolute crap history. the name needs to be changed once we draft a francise player, to symbolize a rebirth. the bobcats name repersents absolute failure at this time.. imo i hope we get the name hornets back and make it "air hornets" charlotte airhornets has anice ring to it, and make the logo into a classic charlotte hornet in an air jordan silhouette pose, would be sweet. if we cant change the name to the hornets then we should change it to the flight. fact of the matter is the name needs to be changed point blank period

Should the Minnesota Timberwolves fans be petitioning to get the Lakers name and history back?

We wouldn't even be discussing this if Bob Johnson would have done what a majority of people wanted and named the franchise the Charlotte Flight instead of the Bobcats.

Is Flight really that much better than Bobcats? What would our mascot be?

I could honestly careless about the name of our team, but 'Bobcats' are indeed a pretty terrible name.
