i support this thread 100%

he should be starting. every time he has played for us going back to last year he has been great. always in the right place on defense, hustles his ass off and sets great picks.

Teach them in practice, guide them from the bench during the game.

No need to be playing a scrub like Mexicat when we have so many young guys to still evaluate.

Who also sucks - but who has zero upside and will have zero impact on our team going forward.

Why play a guy who means nothing to the re-build?

Because we can't just play DJ, Kemba, Hendo and Bismack. You need a 5th player on the floor.

i dont think white or thomas should be part of the rebuild either, so play the one of the 3 who plays his ass off and plays with intelligence, even if he is 35 and out of contract this summer. i am hoping that by seeing how najera plays it might at least rub off on the younger guys.

if najera was taking minutes from biz or maybe even mully (who i havent completely given up on yet, then i would probably feel differently). biz obviously has a long term future with the team and he should be getting minutes. and mully has at least shown enough to think that he could one day be a solid backup center. white and thomas are what they are. playing them 15 minutes extra isnt going to give us more wins, it wont develop their games much, it wont improve their trade values. it only sets a bad example. for thomas it says - come in to camp not ready for the season, have your worst year ever, shoot 35% from the field and still get minutes because of your contract. for white it says, play crap defense, dont rebound and still get minutes because you can sometimes score.

i only see a handful of players on the current team that are worth keeping - biz, hendo, maybe kemba, maybe augustin, maybe mully. give those guys minutes. najera, while not part of long term plans, can at least help start to help build this teams identity, which should be play hard, play smart, rebound and defend and you will get minutes, regardless of contract or draft status.

it gives silas credibility. when he says, you better play hard, smart, defend and rebound if you want to play, he can point to najera and tell the young guys "go beat him out and you can have his minutes and if you cant beat out a 35 year old career back up, then you should probably find a new profession".

Sums it up beautifully.
The defensive intensity went up as soon as they benched Diaw. Making examples like that does pay off.

If you're cheering for a 35 year-old man to start at power forward ... you might be a Bobcats fan.

With that being said, go for it. Worst thing that can happen is he propels us to several wins.

amazing and scary stuff about the najera injury

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/0 ... ehead.html
He has 12 screws and a Titanium-mesh band holding together his forehead.

“Thank God there was no (brain) injury. It was close to the brain, but thanks to my big forehead, didn’t get to it,’’ Najera joked

Doctors tell him he can’t exercise for about a month and needs to avoid head contact for a couple of months. But if he wants to continue his playing career (his contract is up in July and he’s played 12 NBA seasons), there’s nothing about this injury to preclude that.

Repairing his forehead was so complicated that doctors described it as re-assembling a puzzle. Yet five days later, Najera showed up at a Bobcats shoot-around with no apparent scars or after-effects.

“He did an amazing job – didn’t even touch my hair,’’ said Najera. “My first question was, ‘Are you going to shave my head?’ He’s like ‘Don’t worry about it, the hair will stay.’ I couldn’t believe the new technology: They opened my whole head, they pulled my face out and fixed it.’’

Any regrets?

“I was disappointed his elbow didn’t break,’’ Najera replied.

“Obviously there were a lot of loose pieces they had to put back together….I feel like he did a facelift – not even any wrinkles.’’

That's crazy. Glad he's okay. I'd love to see pictures of his fracture, I bet it resembles the trauma of a ball pin hammer.
