1. tony parker - 18.3/7.7 - i'm sure this pick will catch some heat, but i have a hard time thinking of any other point guard in the league that i would rather have on my team right now. as deep as the spurs are, parker is the unquestioned best player on that team right now and that entire offense is all about him. nobody can keep him out of the lane. he is a 1st team all-nba this year, imo.
2. chris paul - 19.8/9.9 - as much as i hate the guy for how he flops and for basically being a complete lebron follower, i can admit that he is still awesome. he is the most balanced point guard in the game.
3. russell westbrook - 23.6/5.5 - the best scoring point guard of the bunch and defensively a beast, but his passing is questionable at best and the turnovers are a problem at times. this is as high as i can rank him as a point guard.
4. rajon rondo - 11.9/11.7 - i feel that rondo is the best playmaker in the league, ahead of nash. he sees things on the floor like only a handful of other point guards (magic, stockton, kidd, nash). his defense is still among the best. if he could shoot he'd be #1 on my list every year. his inability to put a team on his back and score for himself in crunchtime pushes him down the rankings.
5. derrick rose - 21.9/7.9 - a year ago he as #1 on the list. injuries kicked his ass all season, but prior to the ACL tear last week i would have still taken him at 80% over anyone else below him. obviously when 100% healthy he is a lock for top 3.
6. deron williams - 21.0/8.8 - every year deron puts up great numbers, yet i still don't get the feeling that he impacts the game the way a player of his skills should. he just seems to be lacking in something, maybe leadership, toughness?
7. steve nash - 12.5/10.7 - the old man is amazing. he looks like he could play another 5 years.
8. kyrie irving - 18.5/5.4 - something tells me he will be in the top 10 for a decade.
9. kyle lowry - 14.4/6.6 - i had him in my top 6 after the first 2 months of this year. i'm not sure how healthy he is now, so i dropped him a few. he still needs to improve his shooting and shot selection. defense and rebounding among the best for his position.
10. ricky rubio - 10.6/8.2 - hopefully the ACL tear wont slow him down much. he had the twolves playing +.500 ball and they fell apart w/out him. great passing, great defense, has to fix the offense to go any higher.
11. ty lawson - 16.4/6.6 - total blur on the court.
12. john wall - 16.3/8.0 - top 5 potential in terms of skills, but does he have the work ethic, understanding and leadership needed to get there. until then, no higher than this and 12 might be generous.
13. mike conley - 12.7/6.5 - he is a poor mans tony parker. like parker he keeps getting better every year.
14. jrue holiday - 13.5/4.5 - the defense is sublime. he needs to work on shooting and passing to match.
15. steph curry - 14.7/5.3 - next year he could be top 10 or down to 30 depending on that ankle. i cant wait to see what he does with ellis out of the picture.
16. Jason Kidd - 6.2/5.5 - 40 years old and still going. stats dont measure his impact. he can still defend and shoot 3s and his passing is always great.
17. andre miller - 9.7/6.7 - like kidd, stats dont measure his impact on the game. and he never misses games.
18. brandon jennings - 19.1/5.5 - harsh ranking for a near 20ppg scorer. i am still not convinced he has a clue how to play point guard.
19. goran dragic - 11.7/5.3 - i admit i am guessing a bit on this one. he put up good stats the last month, but it didnt really help the team much. not sure about his defense either. love his aggressiveness off the dribble though.
20. jeremy lin - 14.6/6.2 - gotta prove it wasnt a fluke and gotta kills those turnovers before he can go higher.
