NBA ChoK16 - the Rich Cho Thread

Post#1 » by fatlever » Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:25 am

this has been floating around the net today, worthy of a mention

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-dont-lie/charlotte-gm-rich-cho-keep-bringing-time-thunder-201830587--nba.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

quotes from portland tribune article

http://www.portlandtribune.com/sports/story.php?story_id=133962924794683000" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"I didn't think we were going to set the record for the poorest win percentage in history," says Cho, 46. "I take full responsibility for that."

Cho hasn't spent a lot of time during the past 12 months playing his second-favorite sport. There is too much work to be done with the Bobcats, who contacted Cho the day after his 11-month reign with the Blazers ended ignominiously.

In Charlotte, Cho says, "we're trying to build it similar to how we built it in Seattle/OKC."

Higgins and Cho share front-office duties. Though he is too modest to admit it, Cho is the point man on virtually everything, including the draft, free agency, putting together a summer-league team and the hiring of a coach.

Jordan has backed away from day-to-day responsibilities, and gives Cho autonomy to make decisions.

"It's been terrific to work with Michael," he says. "He is very supportive. He has taken a step back, but we always keep him informed. When he is in town, we always talk."

“We’ll look to keep him as a free agent, if the price is right,” Cho says.
(speaking of DJ)

this is my favorite part
Cho has revamped Charlotte's scouting system, putting together "the most advanced database I've seen," he says. "It's an eyes, ears and numbers approach. It was something we were going to do in Portland, but didn't have enough time."

Cho is the kind of guy id like to sit and chat with for an hour just to pick apart his brain.

Wonder if he had that system in place in time for last draft leading them to Kemba and Biz or if this will be the 1st time he is rolling it out?

Cho is the best thing that has ever happened to this franchise...

The article points out the biggest problem with our current team: our three highest paid players

Charlotte is committed to about $43 million in salary for the upcoming season, including Corey Maggette ($10.9 million), Tyrus Thomas ($8 million) and DeSagna Diop ($7.37 million).

For some reason, I seem to remember him saying he didn't have enough time to get it up and running around the last draft. He took Bismack because he had been scouting him and was on his bandwagon way before he became trendy. Kemba seemed like a MJ pick

I may just be making that up though, so don't quote me.

I think so, too.

I remember Biz said that Cho really wanted another pick last year to get him.

Let's see this draft if his advanced scouting database is for real. :wordyo:

Why then does the media and even some fans keep bringing up mj's name as if he is going to make draft decisions. It is clear that cho will be making draft decisions yet chad ford and others can't keep mj out of their mouth.

I'm sure Cho will be the one making the decision, but of course Jordan is going to have some type of input on who to select. Whether or not Cho listens to him is up to him.

Ok. I'm angry at Cho for not drafting Drummond. Maybe not at 2 but he could have drafted down. His stock is rising to Demarcus Cousins levels. I'm shocked he fell so far in the draft. His floor is Andrew Bynum and his ceiling is Dwight Howard. I'm mad.

Small sample size. Remember when Tyreke looked like he was going to become Kobe?

Biyombo, Biyombo, Biyombo! was the only reason why we didn't draft Drummond. I'm not mad at Cho because I understand that MKG was the safest and most logical pick that the Bobcats could've made at #2 after getting hosed by Stern for the #1 pick of Anthony Davis. It seems to me that Cho is becoming skeptical and leery of his own practices lately that helped create the OKC model by building through the draft now that he's realizing that rebuilding a team isn't as easy as 1, 2, 3 years when a Kevin Durant-like talent doesn't fall into your hands. That's likely the reason why we've been hearing about so many rumors of trade talks involving the Bobcats front office.
They will wage war against the Lamb but the Lamb will triumph them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings - and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers." Revelation 17:14 (NIV)
