me too, and you can actually win jobs by just being nice to the interviewer, they overlook qualifications sometimes because you need life brains and not just book brains

I just purchased my first home this week and I could do anything the lender can do, and I tell he makes bank! I learn extremely fast with computers.

Well I chose finance, and wish I didn't, but oh well here I stand.

fun related question

if you could have any degree from any college, what degree would you choose and from what college?

(assume in this scenario that you can fast forward thru the actual learning and hard work. you magically get the degree and all the knowledge gained along the way)

A statistics or some form of math degree (what I should have done) from Harvard. Then either transfer that into an MBA at Wharton or masters in math at MIT.

If I had to do it over again I wouldn't have gone to school at all b/c I don't think any degree would have helped the fact that I graduated in 2008.

i have been thinking about this for a long time and i still don't really have definite answer.

stats/math degree from MIT - become an analytics guy for a sports team

law degree from harvard - pretty much opens doors everywhere

econ or finance from wharton school of business (penn) - get a job as a fund manager

environmental science degree from cornell - closer to my actual degree (geography), get a job working to find clean fuels, plus ithaca, ny is awesome

geology or engineering from colorado school of mines - get a job working for a gold mining company (i have a secret obsession with gold mines and the history of gold mining)

music degree from university of north texas (#1 jazz music school) - start my career as a jazz drummer

anything a yale (try to get in skull and bones) - then write a tell all book about it and spend the rest of my life in hiding or get moved to the head of a major industry, whichever comes first.

history from princeton - lead a quiet life as a history expert for an area of interest, perhaps working in a museum or writing books.

computer science from stanford - and try to get a job with one of the big silicon valley companies

The funny thing is, our major rarely translates directly into our profession. The other thing is, we don't make our best decisions post high school. By the time you are finishing your degree you may ask yourself..."how did I get here?". Many a day goes by...(Talking Heads reference)

I should have gone somewhere to major in Broadcasting. I was doing radio in high school at the local stations. After graduation in 1981 the economy was not very good. I worked several jobs, then got back into broadcasting. Loved doing radio (morning drive, eventually station manager at an AM), but you had to move constantly if you wanted to climb markets and get anywhere.

But my choice to Fat's question really would be Psychology, then a Masters in clinical from Carolina. I loved the study of human behavior and treatment. I bailed thinking Economics would get me a great job. I really liked Econ, and it helped me. But I am a closet shrink at heart!
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
