2014 Free Agency Thread

Post#1 » by gehenherzog » Fri Feb 7, 2014 2:59 pm

Thoughts on this? I have looked at the list of players. Don't know how to copy/paste it without it being jumbled up.

Could we get Hayward? Chandler Parsons going to resign with Houston?

Who should we go after that would realistically sign with us?

(EDIT by fatlever)

realgm has a really good free agent list that is sortable. check it out

We could definitely get Evan Turner, but why do we want him? He's terrible.

He's not "terrible". I'd prefer Gordon Hayward but he's not realistic.

He's pretty bad. As pointed out my many, his numbers are inflated by the pace of the sixers. He's not efficient whatsoever and would do nothing to help us.

I think we can get Hayward, we'd obviously have to over pay slightly but we're going to have plenty of money to spend in the offseason.

Oh, he would do something, not nothing.

I think the Jazz have enough money to match.

We should be so lucky to attain a player of Evan Turner's (SF) stature. Fortunately, with Gordon and Sessions expiring, that gives us about $18.5 million in cap space. We just MIGHT be able to sign him.

His 'something' is putting up a lot of 3's at a low percentage.

I think its important that we not mortgage our future over the next two weeks to the point we have no 1st round draft picks or cap space this off season. We need to end this season with one, or preferably both, to give ourselves some flexibility to improve for next year. Obviously, if we get a great deal then we should take it but we shouldn't be making desperation moves just to move from an eight seed to a six seed.

Put me in the camp that wants to overpay for Lance Stephenson. Would fit in beautifully next to Kemba. Can dish with the best of them, run point when Kemba is on the bench, and has improved his 3PT % every year.

Add Lance and someone like Dudley and we would be gold.

Yup. Would love to Sign Lance.

Add an Anthony Morrow for relatively cheap as well.

Yep, that would be ideal. Lose BG and Sesh, add Lance and some more "appropriate" players like Dudley/Morrow.

Should be able to replace Sessions with a decent backup PG for less than the $5mil per he is earning

Lance Stephenson needs to be this team’s top offseason target, hands down.

I’m not saying he’s going to make the monumental jump we saw from James Harden, but, like Harden during his time in OKC, his number’s are greatly suppressed due to deference to other players on offense in Indy (George, Hibbert).

If you were to plug him in on this Charlotte roster as starting 2 guard, he would be good for 20/5/5 on high percentage shooting (he’s avg 14/7/5 right now with 50%fg on only 11 shots per game).

The guy has figured it out. He defends tenaciously, handles the ball like a PG, has ridiculous court vision and can score. He’s an improved outside shooter (nearly 35%) and he appears to have conquered the maturity problems that plagued him early in his career. In terms of brute strength, he’s the strongest 2 guard in the league and he plays with a contagious swagger. Plus, he is only 23 years old. Stephenson and Walker, both being from NYC know each other and play together on occasion during the summer.

The Pacers desperately want to keep him and he wants to stay. But they’ve got almost 65 million in committed payroll on the books for next season. With Gordon expiring, I’d offer Stephenson up to 10mil per, maybe even 11 in attempt to lure him away, perhaps even having Jordan put in the recruiting call.

Hayward is going to cost at least that much and is barely mustering 40% fg % and, despite his reputation as a shooter, is shooting a worse FG% than Stephenson from the 3.

If we sign Lance Stephenson, put another shooter next to him at SF with our mid first like a Hood or Mcdermott to punish opponents when they double Jefferson next year, then we’ll be a legit play off team.

Walker / FA backup or PG with Portland pick
Stephenson / Hendo (or Taylor if we end up dumping hendo’s contract) / CDR
Hood or McDerrmott / MKG
McBob / Zeller
Jefferson / Biz

Lance Stephenson has 'soon to be bad contract' written all over him, but that's just my opinion. I don't care to debate or argue about skewed stats & potential

He has the body type that will get drastically slower quickly but that's years away. Right now he reminds me of Gerald Wallace in his intensity and aggression. But I don't see why he would pick Charlotte. Kemba could help. MJ could help but I think his swagger demands a bigger spotlight and his agent will place him in a large market like LA, Chicago or NY. He plays alot like a Knick.

Just wondering, do you dislike Al Jefferson as well?
