#Energy - The Jason Maxiell Thread

Post#1 » by LamarMatic7 » Thu Sep 25, 2014 6:44 pm

Rich Cho just broke the news.

Basically said that we need another big guy and he's being signed to a training camp deal. His intel says that he's a good locker room guy.

Jason Maxiell signing with Hornets tomorrow.

Rick Bonnell ‏@rick_bonnell 44s

Maxiell contract isn't guaranteed, so 15th roster spot is still open. But they need another big man.

I like this signing.

haha, yep

I love that Cho almost laughed at the re-branding helping us land guys, like Maxiell in this instance.

The Magic reportedly have been extra cautious with only signing hard-working guys that are also great for the locker room. You could say that they're the only team which has been after such guys even more than us. It says something about the fact that they signed Maxiell last summer when they were in complete "all youngsters, no veterans" mode of tanking. Of course, Cho himself just said that his intel said good things about Maxiell's presence.

We all know that Jason plays his heart out so I guess that the only topic of discussion that could develop here if he survives training camp is him getting some of Cody's or Vonleh's minutes (or them in turn getting Biz's minutes).

Good signing, Maxiell is a brute that will give you a solid backup powerhouse type of big to give some dunks and blocks.

How much game does Maxiell have left?

See? The name change worked after all! Now we have superstars like Jason Maxiell actually wanting to play for us!

In all seriousness, it's not a bad pickup. Essentially a more athletic Jeff Adrien. Wouldn't be surprised to see him on the team this year.

I had already forgotten about Adrien... damn... I don't know whether at this point Maxiell can jump out of the gym like he used to though to have the upper hand on Rocky in the athleticism department.

Well this was only 18 months ago. As far as I know, he hasn't been injured or anything. He averaged close to career highs across the board in 2012-13 before signing with ORL and not playing for them because they were tanking.

Maxiell will be a great pickup for depth imo.

He's a Huggins player, who will bring toughness to our bench.

He's not a shotblocker but he plays good man and team D.

I hope he gets the 15th spot, you could do a lot worse for sure.

This is a good fit. He could honestly still some bench minutes. If nothing else he'll push people to play harder and hes a great lockerroom fit. Thats all if he makes the team.

Always been a fan of his going back to his Cincy days. I can see him stealing some of Zeller's minutes if Zeller doesn't get that jumper on track, Maxiell has nice range around the elbows. I hope CZ relegates him to the 15th man spot though and I definitely don't want to see Clifford inexplicably play Maxiell over Biz like he did with Adrien last year. The last thing we need is another undersized C backing up Al.

That's all I needed to hear. We need as much of that as possible.

All these other comments talking about his play is just icing on the cake. I hope he works hard and does even better

I wouldn't be surprised if hes our backup center or PF 10 games into the season.

I don't think that he'll be the primary backup C, he is too small (well that didn't stop Adrien i guess) but i can see him be the starting/backup PF and Marvin move to backup SF if he plays like he did his last year in Detroit

MKG/Marvin
Zeller/Jason/Noah
Al/Biz
