Guys I would like to see us bring in, who I think could contribute in a positive way and who I think could be affordable:

Kendall Marshall
I think he would be a great, pass first addition to our PG line up. Something we don't have.

Jeremy Lin
Could push for the starting role.

Jeremy Lamb
Ya, I'm one of the guys who wouldn't mind rolling the dice on him.

Shabazz Muhammad
I'd kick the tyres and see if he could be had. He could be what PJ was meant to be, but doesn't seem to be.

Joe Johnson
I'd go back and see if that old deal might be able to be re-opened (Lance for JJ).

Jamal Crawford
Could help with long range shooting and creating shots for others.

Leandro Barbosa
Good impact player off the bench.

Jared Dudley
Such a smart, heady player who would considerably lift our teams BBIQ.

K.J. McDaniels
I'm really excited by this kid. Reminds me so much of a young Gerald Wallace - but ways further along at the same stages of their careers.

Chris Douglas-Roberts
Good all round value player.

Kevin Seraphin
Good post player. Like a smaller version of a poor man's Al. Could be great off our bench.

Terrence Jones
Really liked him in college, still like him now. His versatility would be great for us at the PF spot.

John Henson
His shot blocking would be welcomed.

pretty sure we have a separate free agency thread as well.

they have clearly prioritized shooting, rightfully so, but I'm worried they will look at shooting while ignoring how they fit. like Marv.

People keep talking about sign and trades for draft picks. Is that possible? I thought since FA was after the draft you could not pull this off.

I believe FAs can't begin negotiating until July 1 and can't sign until July 8, so you would have to like the player that was drafted. There is also a rule that came to light in the Wiggins trade that a rookie that signs a rookie contract can't be traded until 30 days after he signs.

I ***think*** that if a rookie is traded prior to signing, it's like trading draft rights and you don't count his salary as part of the trade. I don't know the rules though about how long a rookie has to sign his contract though.

I thought that was right but I was not sure.

Probably not realistic, but hey its the fake trade thread. Other pieces probably need to be included, so feel free to help finish this trade to put a star in a Hornets uniform.

#9 pick this year and Kemba to Clippers
CP3 to Charlotte

Probably horrible (not sure for which team though)

Terrence Jones +2nd round pick for Biyombo S&T

gets Houston a legitimate backup center

Charlotte gets a backup PF/C that can stretch the floor and block shots, move Marvin to SF.

If the Clippers were decidedly swept I could see them entertaining trading CP3, but they won't under any circumstance.

I definitely think an upgrade at point guard is needed though. How about Kemba and #39 for the #6, Landry, Stauskas? Then take whoever falls out of Mudiay/Russell/Hezonja/Winslow at 6 and whoever is left out of Johnson/WCS/Oubre at 9.

Then make Lance work his ass off to get in shape and play PG next season (if we don't get Mudiay or Russell) and roll with
Lance/Hezonja/MKG/(two of Zeller, Vonleh, Jefferson)
Stauskas, Stanley Johnson off the bench as the wings
Landry becomes our Maxiell
Get a FA PG in case Lance sucks (Mo Williams, Kendall Marshall, etc.)
I don't support domestic violence. Thanks Miles

Once a rookie is drafted he has a cap hold equivalent to his slotted value. In fact our ninth pick's salary is already on next season's books, though that could change via the lottery or trade.

This hold is reserved for only him, and is only extinguished in the event of a "draft and stash" or if the team waives or trades said player.

Teams can exceed the cap to sign their rookies, but this cap hold - like holds on FAs - prevents them from signing other players first then using the rookie exception to exceed the cap to sign their rookies.

This is why most rookies sign at the onset of free agency: there's no reason to delay it because their salary is already on the books.

That said, the rookie exception allows for virtually any trade involving draft picks. So in that sense you're kinda right.

I proposed this on the trade board. thoughts?

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1385124&p=43454790#p43454790

9th and Al for Batum, McCollum, Leonard and pick 23

Batum is what Lance was supposed to be, McCollum is a 40% 3pt shooting combo guard and Leonard is a 40% 3pt shooting C. pick 23 should net a good role player.

I like it. Resign Biz and let him and Leonard hold down center while Zeller and Vonleh work at PF. Batum and MKG can play together and McCollum becomes a bench spark like Mo was supposed to be. If Batum gets his shot back to where it was prior to this year it could be a great deal. Use the 23 to go after a big PG like Lucas who could play with McCollum and defend the SG maybe.

Kemba-Delon Wright (23 pick)
Batum-McCollum-PJ
MKG-Marvin
Zeller-Vonleh-Richaun Holmes (39 pick)
Biz-Leonard

add another center, PG and utility player and we have a good versatile squad that can actually shoot while not compromising defense much.

I like it. I might go different in the second round but other than that it is solid. We need to make a move if something like this becomes available. The key is if we can trade Al during the draft.

Batum was horrendous this season.

Do not want under any circumstances.

Batum is garbage.

He looked completely disinterested with basketball this year.

If he can't maintain focus whilst in the middle of "contending" in the West, I'm pretty sure it's a disaster waiting to happen here.

Al did too.

this trade is basically Al for Batum (both expire next season) and 9th for 23rd, Leonard and McCollum.

huge shooting upgrade, 2 40% 3pt shooters and Batum is a career 36% shooter.

I would do the deal unless Hezonja is at 9. Would consider if Stanley is there.
