Nicolas Batum: Batum's knee injury not a long-term concern
Nicolas Batum - G/F - CHA - Apr. 4 - 1:53 pm et
Steve Clifford said Nicolas Batum's strained left knee, which forced him to miss the second half of Sunday's loss to Cleveland, is not considered a long-term concern.
It's not clear if Batum will be forced to miss more time, but the good news is that it sounds like he'll be fine and ready to roll once Charlotte's postseason begins. The Hornets play four times this week, including a back-to-back set, so the potential for Batum to sit out at least one additional game definitely exists, and those relying on Batum have no choice but to wait for a more concrete update. Courtney Lee, Jeremy Lamb and Jeremy Lin would all play more if Batum is on the sidelines. Apr. 4 - 1:53 pm et

An aside from the injury worries to post Batum's numbers in our last 10 games: 34 MPG, 18.5 points, 5.7 boards, 6.9 assists, 46.9% FG, 39.0% 3PT (5.9 attempts), 83.9% FT, 58.3% TS, 2.1 tos.

He has been killing it. I think there were valid concerns about whether he could simultaneously wear the hats of scorer and facilitator. Down the stretch, signs point to yes.

Batum listed as questionable for Wed. That's good news, since this is the first we've heard about the severity of his sprained ankle. The fact they have him as Q for next game lets us know its not as serious as it could have been.

That being said, I hope he doesnt play.

With the Knicks targeting players who will suit their triangle offence I wonder if they'll go after Bats during the summer?

That would make me sad.

I'm guessing we sign Batum within the first few hours of free agency.

We better not unless he's signing for at or below his $19M cap hold.

5yr max contract for 30% of the cap. I don't think any other team can compete with that.

Probably reach an agreement really early so that they can move on to other targets. The actual signing can be scheduled for whenever.

The moratorium has been shortened after the DeAndre Jordan fiasco, but there's still a moratorium. So the Hornets have until the moratorium lifts to get their other ducks in a row.

Unless they're feeling confident that Nic will honor his verbal agreement and can hold out till the end of free agency after using up all the other cap space before signing Nic above the cap with bird rights.

Though I wonder if the DeAndre Jordan thing will cause teams to second guess the reliability of any such verbal agreements and immediately exercise the actual signing upon the lifting of the moratorium, instead of waiting till all the other cap space is used up first with other free agent pieces.

Waiting may get you some end of free agency bargains. But the DeAndre Jordan story may be cautionary.

like Spaceballer said, we only need to come to an agreement and then we can officially sign him whenever. I think I trust him enough to not DeAndre Jordan us.

Just send a squad of MKG, Cody, Hawes, Frank, and any other big bodies you have to kidnap him and hold him hostage in his home till it's time to sign. Just like the Clippers did with DeAndre Jordan

No fracture, so somewhat good news.

Batum, 27, underwent an X-ray on Thursday and the results did not reveal a fracture, a league source told cleveland.com. I'm told Batum is not able to place weight on the foot. The results of his MRI have yet to be released.

Clifford says the swelling has gone down in Nic Batum's ankle but that's all he knows #Hornets.

Even if he knows more, he shouldn't say more. Keep opponents guessing till game time.
