both Raptors and Hornets are top 10 offense in regular season... both played some ugly offense... too conservative...

the heat does a good job of taking away the paint and unless you're a team that can punish them from range, its gonna look ugly.

Wade is clutch as hell... man, he made all the critical plays, block, steal, making shots...
Compared to Wade, stars in Hornets and Raptors are like middle schoolers...

in the Hornets' case, they were just too afraid to move the ball..
in Raptors' case, they don't know how to play top PnRs that got them going all season long...

i think heat plays the pnr pretty well. what really hurts the raptors is shooting 23.8% from range.

hornets had problems moving the ball in the earlier games because they were playing tight man defense. that coupled with the size advantage made it difficult to pass the ball. offensively, we won games 3-4 because we were driving aggressively to punish them for playing tight and we won game 5 because we shot well and passed well since they eased off the shooters. besides being bad at defense, we also can't shoot worth crap in the last two games.

ranged shooting
game 7 - 7/21 for 33.3% (32% on all FG attempts)
game 6 - 5/17 for 29.4% (take away kemba's 4/8, you have the team shooting 1 for 9)
game 5 - 12/24 for 50%
game 4 - 4/16 for 25%
game 3 - 5/18 for 28%

game 2 - 1/16 for 6.3%
game 1 - 6/17 for 35.3%

if u play with pace, not limited to a designated ball handler bringing the ball up, there is no way you cannot move the ball... Clifford would never do that because he is defense first coach...
just watch how Warriors and Blazers are moving the ball, every shooter pick his spot and in a rhythm...
Marvin was totally taken out of the game not because he was injured, but he did not got in a rhythm of shooting... game 5 he made a couple of tough shots, but those were not his usual shots...
by the way, check the pace of game 3, 4, 5.. at least check the pace when lin was in... a lot better than game1, 2, 6, 7...
With Batum in, coach likes to move the ball through Batum in the half court... it did not work...

The Heat play a smart scheme defensively. They can't shoot many 3s on offense so they try to take that away from their opponent too as their first priority. Level's the playing field a lot. They also have good size overall and good interior defense which ideally helps erase drives to the basket. The Hornets exploited that some, hence Miami's foul troubles and some of the great games by Kemba and Lin. MHO, but due to this Kemba tended towards hero ball as the series went on and that played a big part in the losses in games 6 & 7.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Wade willed the Heat to a win in Game 6 against us and willed MIA to a win tonight. I really didn't think he had it in him anymore, he's impressed me.

if i were clifford, I'd play kemba and Lin downhill, push the tempo all game long in game 6, with the home court advantage, overwhelm the heat...

like i said, u open up the court, start moving the ball from the back court... push the tempo.. I don't believe the heat can deny your threes...

im not sure. the 3 games we won, avg pace of 94.88; 4 games we lost, avg pace of 92.20. is that statistically significant?

on a player by player comparsion, lin averages a pace of 94.34 while batum is at 92.23. highest pace is recorded by the goat, spencer hawes at 101.54 (and lowest by albus at 88.92, ignoring the two minutes that psycho t played).

im not sure the data tells a very clear story. but lets assume pace matters, how do you push pace? you need rebounds. and if we cant get rebounds, we cant push pace. it then circles back to the main issue that clifford diagnosed, the lack of rebounds.

Lin had a bad game 6 with the badly timed offensive fouls and Kemba had a bad game 7, just couldn't hit his shots and ran out of gas. If Courtney played his game 7, game 6, he would have helped Kemba and Al out with scoring. Not much could have been done about game 7, it just got away from us.

I don't think the Raptors will get away from Miami even though they have more firepower. And Lowry continues to be overall bad in the playoffs.

Here we go again. GSW turns it on late in a game at home. Portland is now falling apart.
