Comfortably Plum - the Miles Plumlee Thread

Post#1 » by yosemiteben » Fri Feb 3, 2017 5:22 pm

Miles Plumlee is a Hornet. Let's get to work on a thread title.

Watch this clip and you'll see an older, bearded Cody Zeller:

I challenge someone to find another center that is more similar to Cody than Miles Plumlee.

I think we will all be pleasantly surprised.

His matchup vs Rudy Gobert tomorrow is already sparking a lot of national attention.

Stephen A Smith and Kellerman got into a pretty heated debate over whether Plumlee can win the matchup

I don't think for a second this is coincidental as Hinkie is well educated and a fan of Classic British Lit

Posted this in the T&T thread...

MIL has connected with the roll man out of the PNR 296 times this season, which ranks 25th in the league.

CHA has connected with the roll man out of the PNR 401 times this season, which ranks 9th in the league. That is with Roy Hibbert logging significant minutes in our rotation, who does not have the footspeed to roll in PNR sets (he's been fed the ball as the roll man in PNR sets only 18 times for the entire season).

Cody Zeller by himself has been fed out of the PNR 149 times this season, more than half as many as MIL as an entire team, and Cody has missed 10 games and only plays 27 MPG.

Miles Plumlee has only been fed out of the PNR 15 times this season.

Suffice it to say that Miles's role is about to dramatically change when he gets to CHA, and in a way that is a much better fit for his skillset.

Miles Plumlee was at @hornets practice today, but could not participate because trade is still pending physicals.

So we're going to get to see him in his first game without any practice time. Hope he's ready to go breakout mode with the minutes and new role he's going to have.

Comfortably Plum - the Miles Plumlee Thread

Post#10 » by BigSlam » Fri Feb 3, 2017 8:20 pm

I'm hoping that our second unit P&R will mimic our 1st unit P&R and the connection between Bats and Cody but featuring Marco and Miles.

But only because I'm busting to start posting "Plumb Sauce"!!!! when Miles bangs one down over a defender off a Marco pass.

This is why I'm not down on the trade.

Think of how far Cody has come under the guidance of Cliff and how he reinvented Cody - or at least allowed him to play to play to his strengths.

If Plum buys in then he could equally have a similar type breakout as we are enjoying with Cody

yup, I'd have been quite happy with the acquisition if he made $5-6M less per year. I think we're a good fit.

I have long suspected that the Blue Devils were growing Plumlees in a secret lab at Duke. Seems like we could have gotten one from them at a discount. Maybe a Macaulay Plumlee or a Moe Plumlee.

Clifford: Hibbert couldn’t stay healthy

Clifford was very excited last summer about the potential value of adding Hibbert, particularly as a rim protector. Hibbert was great in his Hornets debut, totaling 15 points, nine rebounds and five blocks against the Bucks in October.

But one of Hibbert’s knees swelled after that game, and he was never completely healthy the rest of his time with the Hornets.

“I remember leaving the arena that night saying, ‘We’ve got something here.’ ” Clifford recalled Friday. “People don’t understand that having a basket protector is a big deal.

“He’s just never been healthy. He’s had games where he felt better, but never 100 percent. Maybe he needs a couple of months or a summer (to get his body right). He did everything he could.”
This explains a lot

The more I think about this trade, the less I hate it. I still wish we'd held out for some kind of asset in exchange for taking on the contract, but it is what it is. I like Plumlee as a pick and roll player, screen setter, and rim runner. He was good at that in Phoenix, and since then has been underutilized, mis-handled, and has had bad personnel suited for his game. His skillset on a 7' 250-260 pound is very interesting.

If I had to do a comparison for his offense alone, it would be a mildly concussed Cody Zeller. He is not a smart player, not a great rebounder and doesn't always hit rim on his hook shots. Defensively, I'm less sure about his fit, but we've played the last few years with Hawes, Hibbert, and Al Jefferson as our backup centers. So anything he gives us there is probably a bonus over what we've had.

What gets me is that we refused to even give a 23-year-old Bismack Biyombo a contract 18 months ago, and then turn around and pay a 28-year-old Plumlee 4/50 to be a longterm back. That's just unacceptable.

The first time around I only focused on offensive stats. Switch to defensive, and we see that Miles is far and away MIL's best PNR roll man defender this season. He's actually posted better stats than any of our big men using this metric.

Small sample size and all though.
