summer fun: fantasy draft contest - depth charts needed

Post#1 » by fatlever » Mon Jul 13, 2009 9:36 pm

- You have to fill out all the roster spots and cover all the criteria listed.
- You can fill the criteria in any order you wish.
- you must tell which category your selection is for at the time of the selection.
- No player can be selected by two different teams.
- The team is for next season, not a team to build for the future. The winner will be the team that has the best chance of winning an NBA title next year (as voted on by the other managers). 16 rounds.

Draft
- done via message board. dont sign up if you dont plan to visit the board several times per day. nothing is worse than waiting on one person for 3 days to make a pick.
- order will be random, determined after we get 10 teams.
- serpentine draft (i.e if you pick 10 you will also pick 11. if you pick 1 you wont pick again until 20)

winner
- after the draft each team will vote for the team that they think has the best chance at winning the finals in 2010.
- you cant vote for your own team.
- you get 3 votes (first, second, third). first is worth 3pts, second is worth 2pts, third is worth 1pt. most points wins.

The rules/criteria

Excluded player pool – Lebron james, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard. All others are fair game.

Criteria that must be met (can be selected in any order)

1. one rookie from the 2009 draft
2. one European born player
3. one knucklehead - a player who has previously been suspended by the NBA.
4. one International born player (not from Europe - Israel will be included with International)
5. one player from the 2008 or 2009 All-Star game
6. one undrafted 2009 rookie
7. one player older than 35 (must be 35 by July 14th)
8. one non-lottery player from the 2008 draft
9. one player picked in the second round from the 2006 or 2007 draft.
10. one white American born player
11. one player 6'0" or shorter (using NBA.com for measurement)
12. one player 7'0" or taller (using NBA.com or fiba.com for measurement)
13. one player who has never played in the NBA all-star game.
14. one non-rookie who did not play a game in the NBA 2008-2009 (inured last season, overseas last season or retired - but most have previously played in the NBA)
15. one player who averaged less than 8ppg in 2008-2009.
16. one coach - who you want to coach your team

12 team limit.

One question if we pick a player that meet more than one category can we pick which to apply them too?

definitely. that will be part of the strategy, deciding cat to use for players who are eligible for more than one.

Quick question...

Is the object to make the best possible 'talented' squad regardless of positions or is it to actually create a proper squad using positions.

EDIT: Sorry, another question, shouldn't we let the forum decide who wins, not just the participants??

Looks to me like we'll vote once everything is over on which team is most likely to win next season. I don't think positions matter, except that when I vote and there's no center or pg on your roster, I'm docking points. Regardless, I think it will be hard to fill the criteria without getting a position filled squad.

the idea is to create a team that you think has the best chance to win the NBA championship next year. so think of it as if you are a gm constructing a team. how you go about that is up to you. if you want to focus on talent over positions or visa versa that is up to you. that being said, drafting a team of nothing but guards will probably cost you in the votes at the end.

i think once the draft is over, everone can put together their lineups and maybe share a brief explanation on their team style and philosophy. once that is completed we can have a vote.

i'm cool with putting the vote up to the forum. i just figured those that didnt participate wouldnt really care. anyway, i'm up for a forum vote or only participant vote. either if fine by me.

Can we decide later? Israel is considered to be in Europe or Asia? Cases like Ginobili (country) can be used both ways, right?

12. and when such player does not have nba.com measurements? (how many of aboive 7-0 is in the league...there is no nba player in the criteria for reason I guess)
Are declared non-drafted player eligible to "be from a draft"?
Just in case age is considered today, 13th July (no, i dont have anyone in mind, just in case someone gets older meanwhile)

Sorry for obsedant formalism. :)
And of course I´m in.

I discovered a major flaw - according to nba.com only 8 players from South America played in nba last year - way too less for 10-12 teams in this game. You should probably merge this category with "rest of the world" or something. There is not so many non-european international players to have them enough in more cats for all team of this game:( (or we would be force to take players inferior to T.Splitter not really having chance to make it to nba).
