Everybody complaining that it's an old roster needs to understand that its a 40 minute game and none of these guys are going to be logging heavy minutes regardless. Plus its much better to have these older vets represent as they know all know the meaning of sacrifice and how to come together. Honestly, I don't think Grant had much of a choice anyways. These guys wanted to play and I'd like to see an argument against any of the guys chosen.

The pressure is on the team to win Gold after last year's FIBA disappointment and the World has caught up.

The youth is represented in Ant and Hali
The present in Booker, Tatum and Bam
the rest of the Avengers are ATGs

This is as stacked as they possibly could made it.


Most of the other NTs competing have 1-3 top players. This roster have 11 top top quality stars, and Jrue and Bam as high level all around defensive specialists.



And I echo everyone who said its so weak to see Embiid with team USA. Such a mercenary move.

5 point game and 7 point game is not close I guess. Or they didn't send their best in 2012. It's 2024 now and the best players in the world are not American.

In 2012 they played 8 games and the two games you mentioned were the only games that weren't 20 or more blowouts. There were even a few games that team USA won by 40+, lol.

And yes, the Top 4 players (Joker, Giannis, Donic, and SGA) are not American; however, it's not like these four will be on the same team. The next top 10 players in world are American and will be representing team USA. And the field is not even as good as it was in 2012. This will not be particularly close.

The biggest competition for the Americans will likely be the Germans or Canadians. Other than that, there is not much for competition.

I'm not necessarily hating but I would've MUCH preferred to see him play on Team France with Wemby & Co. Would've started to truly reinforce how much the rest of the world is legitimately starting to catch up and just how global the game is really evolving into.

It would've made it feel a bit closer to how soccer appeals to the world by having numerous great countries. For me that's the missed opportunity for the game as a whole instead of just trying a last kick at asserting USA's dominance. Not that I think losing Embiid would cause Team USA to lose per say but it makes it A LOT more realistic.

Embiid going to play for France would be so much more of a mercenary move. He has lived in the US his entire adult life while he barely has connections to France.

I agree it would be more interesting to see him play for someone else just for competitive reasons, but I have no issue with a 30 year old citizen who moved here in his mid teens representing the US.

You guys got your man, somehow, Kawhi makes this team so much scarier, it feels it already should be beyond scary, but with Kawhi, how can they actually lose?

There are little to no guarantees guys like Embiid and Leonard will make it out of the playoffs without an injury.

This. I wouldn't even be surprised, if team USA makes it to the final, but only has 7 active players for the game, due to injuries. That said, Kawhi is essentially 3&D guy on this team. He can play 10 mpg, offer some shooting and excellent defense for a couple of minutes.

I highly doubt guys like Kawhi and Steph are worried about minutes. They're probably just there because it's the last opportunity to participate in the Olympics. With Steph not having to play the POs I expect him to be fresh and ready to go.

As defense, size and rebounding was an issue in the World Cup I'd also be happy to see something less conventional. Like:
Lebron / Curry / Haliburton
Holiday / Edwards / Booker
Tatum / Kawhi
Davis / Durant
Embiid / Adebayo

It would be extremely hard to find someone in that lineup who you'd want your best scorer to switch to. Your best target would be Lebron, but he is still defending better than Reaves, Hali and the others last summer... (Not to talk about the amount of help defense he is going to get)
