Troy Daniels might be a gem though imho

A solid role player off the bench, maybe. Far from a "gem" imo.

Oh ok. Just saw few games. Made a good impression on me.

This off-season definitely hasn't went how the FO wanted it to.

They struck out on Bosh, but they still wouldn't have matched Parsons if they landed him.

We struck out on Bosh also gave up a 1st round pick for nothing at this point. We bring back Ariza who has yet to produce when he isn't in a contract year and we gave up on the guy the first time after 1 year.

This off-season has been terrible.

Yeah that's my issue as well, this might be the last straw for me. Budinger, Scola, Brooks, Lowry, Dragic, and now Parsons...all guys who established their name in Houston in recent years and no longer Rockets in attempt to acquire "star players". Even good finds, like Lin/Asik are shipped out at the drop of the hat. This isn't fantasy sports, fans actually like to follow players' development and see them progress and improve...not see an entire roster filled with hired mercenaries from other teams.

@ESPNSteinLine: Sources say Mavs & Rockets talking potential sign-&-trade that would create trade exception for Houston. But Dallas gets Parsons either way

Yeah but overpaying is the only way to get a talented restricted free agent.

Honestly Morey is smart for not matching. That is WAY too much for Parsons. But he is dumb for putting himself in a situation where he had to match a max offer, when he could've just kept him on a rookie contract for another year. He created this problem, not Dallas.

in hindsight there was literally no reason to not accept his option...he left for nothing anyways. I'm sure Parsons doesn't mind the hefty raise though.

Eh Rockets just sign & traded for Ariza so they'll stay over the cap and have the MLE, and BAE to spend, plus whatever they get for Asik tomorrow (TPE or unguaranteed players). It sucks to lose him but he is not a max player and the off season is still young.

edit- used the Lin TPE for Ariza duh

Fact is that momentum in games is a real thing, while not tangible itself, you can tangibly see the effect it has when teams are on runs and how it can dramatically effect the outcome of games when you can generate any momentum.

This is like Lin with Knicks - we'll match, uh, maybe not.

Parsons, Lin, Asik, 1st and 2nd round picks in 2015, Bosh for Ariza

So Morey turned Lin, Asik and Parsons into non-contract-year Ariza. I guess that's called building a championship roster

Now Houston has no players at all. Ha. Is this whole Morey strategy - they had a pretty good team..

So far not good for the Rockets this offseason.Loss out on Bosh whom seemed like a sure fire lock and then trade Lin,Asik away for nothing to sign said Chris Bosh or Melo and strike out and now let Parsons walk.I think the Rockets as of today took a huge step back,I like the Ariza pick up but still alot of talent to let go of.I understand not wanting all that money tied up and in the case of Parsons long term money tied up but its going to hurt them this season.

If they get a big trade exception that could end up a good deal for them, as it would give a team capped out a way to still add talent via trade. Depends on what they can get with the TPE though to say whether it was worth it or not.

There was some talk about Houston pursuing Josh Smith if they didn't get Bosh. Now they might be able to absorb his contract with their TPE. Could be something to watch
