Is Rick Carlisle the worst coach in NBA?

Post#1 » by ahonui06 » Fri Apr 30, 2010 6:27 am

Roddy Beaubois combined with DIRK to get the Mavs back in the game. Then what does RC do? Rests Beaubois for almost the entire 4th quarter so Jason Terry can play and do absolutely nothing. Worst coach in the West is RC. Worst in the East is Woodson. Comments?

Nets
Wiz
Wolfs

No

Dallas if it is comforting at least the Spurs and Warriors were a lot better than 8th and 7th seeds in the East that got into the play-offs w/ .500 or losing records since 2006.

Carlisle is far from the worst.

Blazer fans are having the same bitching session about their coach. I'm not nearly as anti-McMillan as many Blazer fans are, but if the Blazers were to fire Nate, I'd be fine if they were to replace him with Carlisle somehow. He's a solid coach, just as Nate is. Neither is perfect and have their flaws, but they both excel in some areas as well. The thing I like about Carlisle is his offense. I think he could do wonders for the Blazers offense if you guys fire him.

I missed most of this series, so I can't comment on how he did, but really, it mostly depends on the talent. If you have great talent, then you can make mistakes and still win. Otherwise, you have to be flawless. For example, I think he's a better coach than Phil(really, anyone who doesn't start Fisher and plays our best guys the most minutes(which is easier on our team, as there's a clear difference between the core players and the bench players)), but because his margin of error is smaller, he can't afford to make any mistakes, even minor ones.

If Rick Adelman had Jackson's teams, he would have won more than 10 titles. Right place, right time.

Too much talent can do that to a coach. In his post game interview, Carlisle sounds as if even he himself is confused on who to play because his team is way more stacked compared to his previous teams saying he's got 13 players out there who are really good players. And he's right. Even guys like DeShawn Stevenson (who IMO can definitely can get playing time over Roger Mason or perhaps Keith Bogans) is not playing.

I agree. Too much talent, not utilized/fit properly. I wouldn't say worst coach in the NBA, but definitely not a coach who utilizes the lineup he has. In today's game, he threw off the momentum by playing Terry too much and throwing in the French rookie too late in the game.

Mike Brown is worse imo. The guy doesn't even draw up any offensive plays.

DeShawn Stevenson over the last two season is shooting 29.7% from the field. No team can compensate such a bad scoring efficiency (39.6 ts%). His defensive advantage isn't big enough to compensate for his lack of offense. Mason and Bogans are better players and more helpful to a team than Stevenson at this point of their respective careers.

Carlisle made the mistake of playing Barea over Beaubois. As everyone saw in the last game Beaubois was able to get to the rim with ease while not giving up huge amount of points on defense due to his lack of height.

That is the point on which better coaching comes into play; making the right adjustments. Carlisle wasn't able to do that.

You guys probably don't watch the Raptors enough because they suck, but Jay Triano's easily the worst one.

You're just bitter. Carlisle is a good coach and he was coaching against a team that is built for playoff and its not easy to outcoach probably the best coach in the league right now. If you wanna find bad coach, we have plenty of Mike Browns around.

Is there any team's fanbase safe for the champion ever declare that their coach rocks? I remember when Doc Rivers was almost out of the NBA for doing a piss poor job before 2 HOFers fell on his lap.

Well in Carlisle's defense, all 3 of those guys were awful no matter who they were out there with.

When discussing the worst coaches in the NBA, can we at least look outside the playoff teams?
