The only guys who can challenge him for it next year:

Durant, needs to continue to take steps forward. Raising his assists would help.

Dwight, needs to improve moves in the post and free throw shooting. Not going to win MVP averaging 18 points a game.

Wade, if he goes to the Knicks. He would put up huge scoring numbers with dantoni, the new york media would help his cause.

CP3 will win it, Hornets will win 50+ games and CP3 will drop his usual 20+ 10+ and 2 spg

Durant and Dwight will have a shot.... Paul has an outside chance if his team wins 50 games (which is unlikely)

Oh yeah, Wade definitely has a shot if the Heat get Bosh, Boozer or Amare and they win 50+

Like others have said Wade has a chance if Riley gets those max players in July. Durant will be 3rd next year again(just predicting anyways)

I didn't mean you can't in general, I meant you're not going to beat Lebron for MVP averaging 18 points a game.

Dudley has a good chance to win it next season.

If he's still the best player in the league by a decent margin (like he was this year), and still on one of the best teams in the league, then I would certainly hope that he wins it again. I hate how this award sometimes goes to inferior candidates just to "mix it up."

_BBIB_ wrote:MVP award has always been heavily influenced by team record. So if say the Thunder take another step forward and win 60 some odd games and LeBron's teams in the 50+ win range, and Durant wins another scoring title I can see him breaking up LeBron's streak.

I don't see them giving one to Howard though. The media is overwhelmingly biased against players who's best aspect is their offense. Howard doesn't score enough points to get consideration for modern day MVP.

In fact I'd be interested in seeing the PPG rank for winners in the last 20-30 years. I'd be shocked if there was anybody outside the top 5-10 in scoring to win since the merger with the exception of Nash/Magic (by nature of their position)

If Dwade goes to a good team next year, he will make a lot of noise.

Or if a good team is built in Miami. Its like people forget sometimes how much capspace the Heat have. They've got more flexibility than the Knicks.

league will eventually get tired of giving it to him and will prolly give it to either wade or durant next season or the one after it, even if lebron is the best player that particular season.

Dwyane Wade will win MVP next year and the Miami Heat will win 55+ games.

Paul, Wade and Durant all seem like likely contenders depending on how their teams turn out next year

Dwight if he makes some kind of leap

Kobe if the Lakers have a historically good season

The only exception in terms of PPG is made for a point guard who gets double digit assists who by nature of that stat is near the top of the league in points accounted for.

That's why Nash and Magic have won.

Other than PG, forget about winning MVP unless you're top 5-10 in the league in scoring, which Dwight Howard will not be anytime soon by nature of his limited offensive game and the Magic's offense.

The ONLY exception to help Dwight win a regular season MVP is if let's say he has so much success in the post-season that he yet again beat's LeBron's Cavs in the playoffs and goes on and wins the revenge match against LA and wins Finals MVP.

That helps his case of being the MVP in the regular season even though he had inferior totals.

It would give him momentum going into the next season.

That's the only way he wins MVP

Every year that the Cavs go without winning a title, his chances decrease of claiming another trophy.

He will never win five MVP awards if they don't win a title by the time he's 30.

If James and the Cavs get bounced early, I could see voters being hesitant in giving it to him next year, unless of course there's no one close. I could see Durant, Wade, Bryant and maybe Howard have a real shot to win it next year.
