Most Upsets Ever?

Post#1 » by RayAllen » Sun May 23, 2010 8:21 am

Have these playoffs had the most upsets ever? From SA over Dallas, Utah over Denver, Celts over Cavs and soon to be ORL. I can't think of year which had more upsets other than when Houston won the title in 94.

They are upsets if you go by record and seeding, but I really don't consider them upsets. The most shocking thing about this year's playoffs was Phoenix beating San Antonio in 4 games. I never saw that coming and I don't think anyone did. The Celtics destroying Orlando is also shocking, but I'm not surprised about them going to the finals. I had them going to the finals before the season started.

Atlanta getting obliterated in 4 was a surprise too.

Ya, I don't even think the biggest Suns homers thought it would be a sweep. The only downside is that it didn't occur in the WCF. The Suns don't look like they have that same "edge" that they had in the Spurs series, like they badly wanted to win against the Spurs at all costs.

That's insane! It would be awesome if the 8th upset the 5th, then upset the 7th for the title. :D

If you're looking strictly at seeding then yes this Playoffs have had a lot of upsets, but I wouldn't actually call them upsets. The Celtics were always good and started out the season with the best record, and if they weren't marred with injury and chemistry problems they could've been the 2 seed. So them beating Cleveland and probably Orlando isn't a shock. Same for SA beating Dallas. They had injury issues as well and fully recovered for the Post-Season.

I'll give you Utah over Denver though, that was shocking.

Phoenix sweeping SA was the only upset I have seen.

We all drank the kool aid of the Spurs before they went down in 4.

Yup, after they took out Dallas, I picked them to make the Finals. That's my only real upset, a lot more surprises though in how teams were taken out, Atlanta in four, Jazz in four, possibly Magic in four, Milwaukee taking Atlanta to seven and nearly closing them out in six.

I'm not sure how some of those were upsets. I think Boston's beat-down of the Cavs (for the most part) was considered a monster upset because nobody in their right minds seriously picked them but besides that most things anybody could see being a extremely possible such as the Spurs win over Dallas or Phoenix beating the Spurs.
