Grand Summit

Post#1 » by tihsad » Fri May 28, 2010 5:04 am

So, Wade, Lebron, and Bosh are rumored to be having a "summit meeting". Perhaps I'm behind the times but did Bird, Isiah, Magic, and MJ, conspire to beat each other or mail it in an join up? Perhaps I'm just a "ballboy" newb but how isn't this an obnoxious aside to the game? Does anyone see Bird joining the Lakes to win a ring? Wilt to the green? MJ to the Pistons? Roleplayers and has been ring seeking is one thing, but this is just low. Marketing maneuvers, perhaps, but is anyone else killed by the general lack of competitivism? Go easy cash, but fans recall the lack of pith.

It would be like a player getting traded by a team and refusing to play for them, or when the going gets tough demanding a trade...it's just not what real men do.

You can't win, can you?

Team-up and it's: These guys aren't competitive, they couldn't get it done by themselves. He can't win on his own.

Go solo and it's: He's got a huge ego, and is too selfish to share the spotlight even though he needs help.

Haha what? I'm pretty sure no one is going to say Wade, Bron, and Bosh all have too large of an ego if they don't agree to sign with the same teams.

Meeting will be in the Vatican with Bosh, Wade, Lebron, and Amare inside. Joe Johnson and Boozer will be outside like watch dogs, making sure no one tries to trespass while the real stars decide where they will end up. Once they decided, they will step outside in suits and take off their jackets to show off the team jersey they will commit to next season.

This isnt allowed I think. Players cant have a summit because a lot of them share an agent/agency (Henry Thomas) and the NBA would investigate collusion. That William Wesley guy has his name thrown around a lot.

I dont think its a summit per se. They probably will talk on the phone or meet up for dinner after a charity basketball game in the summer.

It was Lebron who called and told Wade, Melo, Bosh etc.. to sign 3 year contracts a few years back to max their value. Melo chose the 4 year to show loyalty (which may bite him in the ass with the new CBA) Wade and Bosh both agreed to the shorter contract to get the max value of their careers so they have discussed business prior to this season. I can think that Jordan, Barkely etc... sat down with older players and discussed their financial status prior also. Hence some players not being part of the NBAPA. I think this is something that happens when agents get together also and start talking inside deals with teams prior to the official date of negotiations. It gives the players a situation to talk, and make future decisions. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Stern himself was involved with these talks. It is all a business also.

You're foolish if you think the NBA would ever investigate their cash cows for collusion.

Eh? Why would Bird or Magic need to join another team to get a ring? They were trading championships from the second they got in the league and it lasted 10 years. Wilt moved around until he finally won in LA. Besides at what point where all these players FA at the same time?

Bosh has the power, the odd man out will be the one Bosh fears less.

Seriously, not only that but also there was no cap so it was not difficult for a Team to surround their stars with the right role players.

Now days a player maybe stuck with a mediocre team and never able to play with the right players due to money restrictions. Also, Teams are grouping 2 and 3 superstars/stars on one team so that other superstar stuck in that mediocre team, given the opportunity will team up with the best suited team available, and why not, at the end of the day it is success what will defined them.
