The refs dislike of Sheed was very distinct. He suffered greatly due to his poor relationship with refs in the form of phantom fouls, no calls when he was on offense (so many and ones were ignored), and quick trigger techs.

There are two major examples I can think of:

1. In 05 vs Spurs, game 7: Sheed was riddled with fouls- many of which were highly dubious. Perhaps the Pistons would have won the title if not for that.

2. In 07 vs. Cavs, game 5: Sheed was clearly hacked by Varejao on his turn around jumper near the end of the game with the game in the balance. Blatant foul- Varejao basically high fived him- no call.

He definitely suffered from his bad relationship with the refs...

I think it's important to remember though that he created that bad relationship with his antics. From early on he was constantly complaining and trying to intimidate the refs. It was clear when the relationship started to sour.

It wasn't like he came into the league and the refs decided, 'that's the guy we're going to F-with throughout his career.

Yeah, but it is telling about the integrity (or lack thereof) of Stern and the NBA that this obvious bias against Sheed was allowed to persist

You guys may find it funny that he was kicked out of a playoff game without saying a word, but I find that highly biased and disturbing

seriously, that was a terrible job of officiating. You cannot kick somebody out of a playoff game for that. Totally irresponsible.

By the way, that 3rd foul was a joke too.

I'm still pissed off about this crap. Refs play too big of a role in the game

That used to happen all the time... Kobe once got a T for mad-dogging a ref...

To me, the 'Bias' persisted because Sheed persisted... They pretty much instituted the T limit for him, and he still piled them on... In fact to me, the only reason he didn't pick up his final T and earn a seat for a game in the finals was because he had just one more left and the Refs didn't want him to go out that way... There were certainly a couple clear opportunities to show they're bias.

I think he had every chance to tone it down but couldn't/wouldn't... I don't see him as a victim of a Stern conspiracy.

I joked around about him earlier...

But to me, he'll be remembered as a hell of a competitor who played excellent D with Ben Wallace on Shaq in '04...

And a player who did everything to help his team he knew how...
But one who also hurt his teams with his attitude/antics.

The ref gave him 2 warnings and even told his coach. All he had to do was stop staring at the ref. that's on him. You don't need to stare at refs to play proper basketball, so its not like the refs were asking him to do anything that interferes with his game. That's totally justified. If rasheed was thrown out for a semi hard foul and was picked on, I would blame the refs, but the dude was staring the ref down, that's his fault for being a douchebag when it did nothing to help his team

hes gotta play on. you cant let the refs affect your game like that where you are paying attention to side distractions. stare down refs, trash talk to fans, all of that other periphery stuff has got to stop and get totally focused on the game at hand. he was an individual who definitely had a hard time doing that.

back to the topic.

he was an individual who allowed robert horry to punk him and steal a back to back championship as mentioned above, loss of focus with the refs and side periphery stuff, which ultimately led to him losing focus and not listening to his coach, which led to . . . his man on defense (horry) walkin right by him unnoticed and winning a title for his team.

'Sheed seemed to always find his way onto a Lakers rival. Portland, Detroit, and finally Boston. But despite that I loved the guy (except for this year, when he was hardly himself).

He has a passion for the game and brought a light hearted look to the NBA, "both teams played hard" and "BALL DON'T LIE!" always crack me up. He also doesn't seem to get credit for changing his behavior after Portland, sure he was still Crazy 'Sheed at times yelling at refs but there's no denying he toned it down considerably and bought into the team concept later in his career.
Thank you, Phil.

You know, along with the flopping, I find the constant bitching/moaning/complaining to be my second most hated thing in this league.

It's never a foul. It's always clean. They complain about EVERY SINGLE CALL. It's just one long bitchfest, every game. I'd love if they called more techs in NBA...a lot of players just needs to STFU.

And having watched Sheed from the beginning of his career to the end, I can say he deserves it. The guy complained from the first possession to the last possession.

Sheed is my favorite player ever, its you either love him or hate him. I hope he comes back for another year after some rest. He still got 13 millions left on that contract.. nobody refuses to take 13 millions for 2 years.

Thats the way Sheed wanted it to end.

If the game wasnt close he would have beat the refs up in front of the crowd and the 28 mil watching
