They left roughly 1/10 of the money they could have gotten in contracts on the table knowing that they could play together, reap the long term financial benefits of winning championships, and save a ton of money in taxes.
They knew the slight reduction is contract salary would bring them together and that they would still have more income then possible anywhere else during the life of the contract.
