Here's a hint: The Bay Area has the largest concentration of Asian Americans.

If Hawaii had a basketball team, Lin would be in Heaven.

Asian population of Bay Area: 1.53 million
Total population of Hawaii: 1.29 million
Asian population of Hawaii: 0.50 million

Jeremy "Golden Boy" Lin

Golden because he is playing for Golden State, but also cause he's asian.

In about 3 to 5 years, he will have his own ESPN show called The Decision where he plays with his super friends far way from his hometown. :)

Why would I deeply follow Taiwanese politics when it's a complete joke with people actually punching women in parliament?

Again, way to dodge the main point. I bolded and enlarged it for you, in case you (conveniently) missed it twice.

I'm not going to deny the fact that Taiwanese politics has been a complete joke nowadays. It is a joke, but thats a moot point. The main point is that you don't know **** about Taiwan, you probably never been there, your just talking out of your ass. Taiwan and China are as much of a country as North and South Korea. We do have the "Han Chinese" blood, but our different beliefs are what seperates us. As of the "main point", the poster hayden already explained that pretty thoroughly:

Why is that so difficult to understand. Lin was born in America, but Lin's parents are Taiwanese-Americans, so why wouldn't Lin want to identify with what his parent's represent? WHICH is a non-oppressive, non-censoring, democratic government. From what some of you guys are arguing, there is no such thing as 2nd or 3rd generation Taiwanese American... which is just a farce. And BTW you can't be North Korean American unless you're a goddamn refugee. lol Which is sad but true.

Here's an example. If a Caucasian (with Polish blood), whose parents are 5th generation American, is born in Thailand. Would he be Thai Polish? No, I think him and his parents would still classify himself as an American.

As for Taiwan's qualification for being called a country, there are eight essential criteria, and Taiwan qualifies for all of them.

The Raptors Off-Topic post about Lin got locked down by the mods because of supposed racism ... will this thread survive?

I have to admit that as an Asian, my interest in Lin stems solely from his ethnicity. I mean the kid has some game no doubt but really its about race for me. Not sure if that would offend anyone. To me it's like Canadian fans who like Joel Anthony because he hails from Montreal -- really, it's not about his game.

All jokes aside, this is an interesting cultural phenomenon and worth talking about. I'm sure most Asian-Americans basketball fans had a higher than average level of interest when Yao came to the league. But imagine if Lin had that level of talent. Would Lin's popularity in America amongst Asian-Americans beat the interest Yao received from Asian-Americans? Would Asians living in Asia care about Lin making the league?

I was actually in Taiwan this summer, try again.

You've yet AGAIN dodged the point. Unless you are a dual Taiwanese and American citizen, or a member of a very small aborigine clan, you are not a 'Taiwanese American.' Taiwanese is not an ethnicity, just like North and South Korean are not ethnicities. They are nationalities. What is so hard to understand? Are you just dense?

I responded to that post, which by the way is flawed, since Lin CLEARLY has no issue with being labeled Chinese (because that's what he is), and because American is not an ethnic group.

Please, fail harder.
