Jeremy Lin signs with Golden State (Page 26)

Post#1 » by kingscourt » Fri Jul 16, 2010 2:32 am

I have been watching the summer league games and feel Lin should make it. He is good on defense, I don't see the person he is guarding score on him much. He is good at stealing, seems to have good anticipation. He played John Wall pretty well in the last game. He is athelic, he can dunk, he was quoted to be deceptively athetic. He has a good first step, he got past the defenders with ease it seemed. He seems to have high iq where he makes good decisions.

I feel he needs to become a better shooter, if he becomes a good shooter, he could be valuable. His point guard skills are in question, but I feel he can pass the ball.He made a few nice passes, and seems to make good decisions when he has the ball. He seems to be a hard worker and a sponge. A team should sign him as I feel he has room to improve. He is probably better than what many make him out to be, as he was overlooked in college basketball.

I am sure some team will give him a chance, but not Dallas.

I don't have an opinion one way or the other, as I haven't seen Mr. Lin play, but it seems to me a case for a player being NBA-caliber based on the pros that he can dunk, he's "deseptively athletic" and the player he has played against hasn't scored much, and the negatives being he's not a good shooter and has questionable point guard skills is not the strongest of arguments.

He sure looked impressive out there holding his own against John Wall

Imagine if Jeremy Lin actually gets on a NBA team. He would be starting PG forthe All-star team.

Just curious how many of those clamoring for Lin to make it to the league are Asian/American?

If your drawing comparison to Yao's following, not so much I would say. Yao is actually from China and already had a huge fan base there before he got to the NBA. Jeremy Lin is Asian-American, he'll get support from Asian-Americans but relatively speaking that's only a small % of the U.S. population.

I'm always wary of the term "deceptively athletic." The only player I ever recall saying that about and not regretting it is Kevin Durant, who is a condor.

Even if China would support someone who is Chinese American (which is unlikely), Lin, himself is Taiwanese American.

Lin is a good player, but the Mavs aren't the right team.

He won't make the Allstar game, he has to be decent, a lot of people who vote Yao Ming in aren't going to vote Lin just because they support Asians.

Why do people always assume Yao makes All-Star games simply because of the Chinese vote?

The All-NBA Team is even more selective than the All-Star Team. And Yao has been to the All-NBA Team five times already.

He was on my high school team, so it would be cool.

Kid was hooping today, stole the show from Wall. But couldn't quite lead his team back for the win.
Thank you, Phil.

From his wiki:

In 2006, Lin captained Palo Alto High School to the CIF Division II state title[1], where according to Dana O'Neil of ESPN, "... [b]y his senior season, Lin was the runaway choice for player of the year by virtually every California publication. Yet he didn't receive a single Division I scholarship offer."

I know this is ironic coming from a guy named "20MexicanosIn1Van", but is this a product of Asian-American stereotypes that say Asians are nonathletic math nerds? I can't help but think it has something to do with it and, thus, I'm rooting for him.

Yao is deserving. But how do you explain all the all-star votes Yi Jianlian got two years ago? He almost beat out Garnett for the starting spot.
