I can't imagine they give it to anyone on the Heat. You have to be the most VALUABLE player on your team. If Wade is out, they still have Lebron + Bosh to carry them. And vice-versa.

Having a good supporting cast didn't stop Jordan from winning it.

Jordan didn't call up Magic and Bird before hand to join one team, play together and then win an MVP.

Right.. but I never said he did. I said that having a good supporting cast didn't stop him from winning. The Bulls won 57 games in 92-93, Jordan retired and then his supporting cast went on to win 55 games in 93-94. A fact which has done nothing to diminish his legacy. So long as LeBron shows himself to be better than Wade (which was a consensus before this summer) he's going to have no problems winning MVPs or having a legacy.

This summer of controversy will all be forgotten in 10 years when Lebron retires.

You were rationalizing LeBron's move to Miami with Jordan's talented squad. Again, it's HOW you win that defines your legacy. And LeBron bailing his already good team with a bad coach already replaced to join two superstars in their career primes is laughable to even compare to Jordan. Jordan had multiple first round exits and didn't even win until his later stages. The fact that LeBron gets to play with two other top 10 players and get mvp is laughable.

I"m sure if Kobe bailed to join prime Dirk and T-Mac in 06-07 he would still have a great chance to win mvp.

MVP in the NBA is simply, who's the best player on the best team?

Lebron, pretty easily. The guy is the driving force that is going to make the Heat a Finals contender again. Durant, Kobe, Wade, and Dwight are the other players that will considered. But I wouldn't be shocked if th Magic take a turn for the worst the next few seasons.

if I was Spolestra I'd run that offense through Lebron in a point forward setup. Considering how well Wade plays off of the ball, how well the Heat bigs can shoot the outside jumper (Bosh, Z), and how much trouble it will be to bring help against Lebron driving the lane w/out leaving a very dangerous teammate open... I'd be surprised if Lebron didn't average a double double. He averaged 7-8 in Cleveland with much less capable teammates and taking a lot more shots than he'd seemed to want to.

Down to Kobe, Dwight, Durant, Melo, and Dirk in that order.

It is either Dwight Howard, Lebron James, or Kobe Bryant.

Durant will just get token votes for MVP. There has only been one MVP in the league in the last 30+ years without a top three record in the NBA. And the chances OKC gets a top three record is zero. People picking Durant to win MVP are just riding the hype train.

I think If LeBron can average something like 22-10-7 and the Heat win at LEAST 65 games, (and be well above the rest of the competition as far as record goes) he'll get it...

Kobe, meh...I don't think he'll get it unless the Lakers record is better than the Heat's and he averages about what he did this year.

Durant is a strong possibility if Oklahoma City can take that next step and win about 55-60 games and Durant does what he did this past year.

All in all the first scenario seems most likely...

It will be Wade or Kobe. As good as Durant is, I'm not sold on the Thunder having a great enough year again to merit nomination over other stars. I think the Thunder will have to improve their record another 5-7 wins for him to be a favorite and he lead the league in scoring again.

1.Wade- 25 pts 4 assists 3.5 rebounds 2 steals
2.Dwight- 22 pts 13 rebounds 3 blocks 1 steals
3.Lebron- 24 pts 6.5 rebounds 8 assists 2 steals
4.Durant- 31 pts 7 rebounds 3 assists 1 blocks 1 steals
5.Kobe- 27 pts 4 rebounds 4 assists 1.5 steals

I think the Top 3 can be in any order but my gut feeling is that barring unbelievable numbers Lebron won't Sniff the MVP this year

...and that's why Chauncey Billups has an MVP by his name. Oh wait.

Look, think of it this way, for this situation: Cleveland losing to Boston this year was an embarrassment to MVP voters. I'm talking literally - When they vote for a guy, and then he disappoints in the playoffs, they lose credibility. We've got two "biggest star in the game" guys right now in LeBron & Kobe, if LeBron were to win his 3rd MVP in a row, and then Kobe were to win his 3rd title in a row despite LeBron playing on a super team, the MVP would become something of a punchline. They're going to want to avoid that very badly. If they're given any excuse to not vote for LeBron this year, they'll take it.

Uh, why would Kobe's scoring go up so much, and why would his rebounds and assists go down? He hasn't scored like that since the team got good, and it's pretty much a given he goes for around 5 boards & 5 dimes?

How is it embarassing to give Bron a 3rd MVP?

MVP is a regular season award .. He was the best the past few seasons and led his team to 60+ wins.
Same Cavs team that will be lucky to win 40 games next season.

If hes averaging a near triple double .. and is the best player for Miami .. and the Heat win 65-70 games. How can you deny him being a strong candidate?

Isnt being in the top 3 "sniffing the MVP"?

And how would Wade win MVP with 25-4-3.5? When LeBron is putting up 24-6.5-8?

And for the record, you need to look up what MVP stands for. How could the same team have 2 MVP's in the top 3? Thats impossible, it literally contradicts what MVP stands for.
