Joe Smith headed to the Nets

Post#1 » by BIRDMAN BIRDMAN » Fri Sep 10, 2010 9:47 am

From Marc Spears:

Vet free agent big man Joe Smith is expected to take a physical with New Jersey Nets on Friday & sign a contract, a source tells Y! Sports.

He still aint too shabby at this point, Miami shoulda just signed him instead of Juwan Howard, smh.

Probably the best front court player that was still available . Which isn't saying much but still , could have done something worse .

The only player still standing from the 1995 draft....maybe he truly was worth the #1 overall pick!

Shaq or Joe?

Joe was drafted in 1995 as the first pick.

Not that Smith will get much PT (I think he's there to mentor Favors and play spot minutes), but I have a feeling Humphries is on his way out, and maybe part of a bigger deal. Or perhaps Zoubek will be cut since he is non-guaranteed.

Murphy / Favors / J.Smith / Humphries
Lopez / Petro / Zoubek

Something's gotta give, and if anything they could use another SG/SF.

and Kurt Thomas (Bulls), Antonio McDyess (Spurs), Theo Ratliff (Lakers), Jerry Stackhouse (wants to join the Heat...) and Greg Ostertag (working out, going to play in the D-League, hoping to play in the NBA again). Is Michael Finley officially retired?

Another fantastic move which will turn the whole Atlantic Division... nay, the Eastern Conference... no, the entire NBA on it's side and prove to all the other teams in the league that the Nets are serious contenders for a championship not only within the next five years, but right now! The Nets are one step closer in completing...

Good signing, the team needed a veteran leader. Hopefully Smith can be a good mentor to Favors and Lopez.

Joe Smith is a nice person who's going to contribute. I'm happy for him.
