Mavericks = contender?

Post#1 » by clowds » Fri Sep 10, 2010 7:52 pm

I think they are a sleeper this year. They match up very well against the Lakers.

They added the two best defensive C in the game in Tyson Chandler & Brendan Haywood.

J. Kidd
Caron Butler
Shawn Marion
Dirk Nowitzki
Tyson Chandler

Jason Terry
Rodrigue Beaubois
Brendan Haywood

Pretty sick.

Dojo, roddy and Dee brown would help plug up a nagging defensive hole at SG. A hole created by JJ barea and Terry.

Tim Tom can sure up our bench also.

But it seems everyone other than Dirk Chokes in the playoffs though so I don't know.

That line-up dosen't look like it would be able to score...

Jason Terry
Rodrigue Beaubois
Dirk Nowtzki

seem like the only 3 people who would be able to score

I'm not to Big on Caron. He's a 3rd/4th option at this point of his career.

Tyson Chandler and Brendan Haywood are the best defensive centers in the game?

18272 "if"

If Chandler stays healthy and is able to be around 80-90% of his old NO level

If Roddy is next year a solid 15PPG player

If everyone else stay healthy

If Stern would let a team not named Lakers beat the Heat in the finals

Everyone kind of thought they would be last spring, and you see what happened. Probably again a strong team, but they just never have enoguh to quite get over the hump. Part of that is Dirk. He's probably just not good enough to be the lead dog on a championship team, but they never pair him with an equal player, and year after year just fill in good players around him. This particular group of good players might have had enough to get it done 4 years ago, but you look at that starting lineup and basically the entire group seems past their prime for various reasons.

nahh the midget squad(JJB,Terry) loses us the PO games. Dirk actually plays better in the PO. But what about terry? or JJB? Nope.

The Mavs are probably the team that could give the Lakers the most trouble.. So yes, they are contenders.

Dirk to me is the 2nd best player in the west btw.

See Lakers fans play us enough to know we are good but the "u-mad"-ians think wade is god made two guard.

Deep, but this league is a star's league. Nowitzki is the only true star. The rest are excellent role players. I think they should trade for Melo or something to have a far greater chance at a championship.

Ah yeah another if is if they can steal something at the trade deadline.

They got plenty of assets.

Chandler and Butler expiring + quality players for the new team to sign or S&T them next summer.

Terry next year partly guaranteed

Roddy/Dojo/Cala

Picks/cash

Really? Yeah, when Dirk is putting up 30/10 on 50% shooting in the playoffs, it's just not enough! Why can't he go 5-23 in a clutch game and win like Kobe?

A lot of B+ depth, but only one legit A guy.

Need at least another A- guy even if at the expense of two B+ guys.

The Mavs would be sick if they had the Kidd from 2000...too bad its 2010.
