Ben Gordon: Most Under Utilized Player?

Post#1 » by Mad Balla 15 » Sun Nov 28, 2010 10:23 pm

Is Ben Gordon the most under utilized player in the league? It seems like just yesterday he was one of the biggest reasons Boston got pushed to 7 in the CHI/BOS series. In his last year in Chicago he posted 21/4/3 on 46/41/87 percentages. Then he goes to Detroit which is kind've weird since he didn't seem like he liked coming off the bench in Chicago but goes right back to the bench in Detroit. Either way, he's playing behind an old and less effective Rip Hamilton now and is only averaging 14/3/2 this season - identical to his stats last season. If Detroit was smart they would trade away Rip Hamilton while people still think he can make a difference and allow Ben Gordon to take over at the SG spot. Gordon can easily put up 20/4/4 if given the opportunity so I don't see the downside. I feel like he'll break out like Millsap has when he's been a starter, he just needs to be given that opportunity.

Anyways what's your guys take on Ben Gordon and maybe some other possible players that are being under utilized in the league?

Tyrus Thomas comes to mind. He was more productive in 1 game than Nazr Mohammed was for like 5 straight games but BAM dude is stuck on the bench and has actually seen his minutes go down since that 1 start

Detroit for whatever reason has hitched their wagon to Rodney Stuckey. Stuckey is just as ball-dominant and selfish as Gordon, except not as good. It's why Detroit currently has the record they have and why they will be playing meaningless games starting in January. Not sure what is going on in Detroit, or how many more terrible seasons it is going to take before Dumars realizes Stuckey is an average at best player who should be a 6th man on a team and not a starting PG.

You guys use the word "most" too much in this board. "Most" of the time, your topics are an overreaction.

You know nothing.

Gordon is crazy under utilized by the pistons. it amazes me how nearly all of our plays has rip involved but when gordon subs in he is stuck in the corner to spot up or he is given only a few isolation plays per game. honestly, rip should be benched until his contract expires and gordon should get at least 35 minutes per game. we have the worst coach in the league by far.

Kuester should be fired for under utilizing Gordon.

The Pistons, as a whole, are a mess. They have aging veterans that they can't/won't mesh with their young players, their best offensive option is Gordon, who is indeed, underutilized. Stuckey isn't the answer, there's a losing atmosphere within the team, the coach has already been tuned out....it's just a mess. Gordon's situation is merely a bullet point on the list.

Heat are a different type of mess. They have almost all their talent in just 3 players. Other then that the 2 players with good skills are injured. The talent past that is bottom of the barrel.

Obviously somebody does not know their stuff

Kuester doesnt seem to like Gordon, he plays Rip over him despite Rip being far less efficient. Rodney Stuckey has absolutely nothing to do with Gordon not getting time or shots. Nor could use describe Stuck or Gordon as being selfish. Gordon is underused because Coach Kuester would rather give both McGrady and Rip minutes and shots over him

At this point, Id trade Gordon for cap relief and a good prospect and/or pick if Joe D still wont salary dump Rip Hamilton.

I don't think he was implying that Stuckey had anything to do with Gordon's minutes/utilization.

It's the best for Detroit long term. They need to play him or otherwise they'll never find a team that trades for him.

Gordon should get a large enough role with the team like he's worth 12 mil a year. Rip hasn't played well since Billups left, combine that with nagging injuries and clashing with the team and you're only left with a guy that is hard to move no matter how much playing time you give him. Detroit wouldn't get any better, but Gordon deserves a chance to showcase himself.

Gordon averages less than 10 shots a game.
