Is there any way Orlando could form their own super team?

Post#1 » by te887848 » Fri Dec 17, 2010 12:10 am

It's clear that Dwight Howard needs more help if he wants to win a title, not just because or Orlando's recent struggles but looking at the roster, it's not one built for long term contention. (but neither was Miami until they brought in Bron and Bosh).

Is it financially possible for Orlando to pull off something similar like trading for Melo (yes I know they don't have the assets, but hypothetically speaking here) and then signing Chris Paul while re-signing Howard in the summer of 2012?

No because the Superfriends Part II will be formed in New York.

Besides, nobody wants an aging Vince Carter for their franchise player without a good young playing in return.

I'm pretty sure half the teams in the league wouldn't take Rashard Lewis for free, good luck off-loading him with that contract.

We would have to majorly rip-off one or more teams to get ourselves in a position to do that. Someone would have to be dumb enough to take Rashard Lewis' contract, and I really don't see that happening.

I held out hopes that Dave Kahn might be dumb enough for Otis to swindle, but he's not quite that thick. Kind of like a GM Rain Man.

Don't they owe their role players like 200 million per year?

Isn't Rashard Lewis' last year of his contract unguaranteed? I thought he came off the books the same time Dwight Howard can opt out.

Just like the Superfriends part I. Oh wait

Carter's on a partially NGed contract next year. There's no long term commitment required.

According to Sham Sports he is. According to Hoopshype he isn't. I believe Sham Sports personally.

Orlando could form their own super team, but it would take some creative financing from Otis Smith.

No. They don't have cap-space to sign any top-tier free agents, and they don't have the young assets and/or good draft picks to get a Chris Paul, Melo type player.

Once Melo is traded all of the pressure to move will be on CP3. As the Hornets fall further down the ladder the pressure for CP3 to move on will become more and more from the national media. I could definitely see him ending up in Orlando on a package centered around Orlando taking Okafor's contract and Ariza's contract with CP3. Maybe Gortat, Nelson, Orton, Pietrus, Carter, and a boatload of picks for CP3, Okafor, Ariza, and Jack?

It gets NO out of all long-term contracts outside of Nelson and Gortat which are 2 solid starters to build around. Gives them young picks, and maybe Orton magically turns into a good player?

You mean Vince Carter-Rashard Lewis-Dwight Howard isn't a Super Team?

Vince Carter is supposed to be a hall of fame player and he is only 33.

I still don't know why they signed Shard for that much...that's given them very little flexibility to make a franchise-changing trade.
