Ted Williams, Homeless Internet Sensation, Offered Job by Cavaliers.By FanHouse Staff

Text SizeAAAPrint this page|EmailShare on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on DiggShare on LifestreamTed Williams, the homeless man with a "golden radio voice" that became an internet sensation overnight, was offered a job as full-time voiceover man and a free house by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"The Cleveland Cavaliers just offered me a full-time job and a house! A house! A house!," Williams exclaimed on radio station WNCI.

A rep for the team called into the radio show to make the job offer. The Cavs have confirmed the offer to FanHouse.

Williams quickly became a hit when the Columbus Dispatch posted a video on Monday morning of Williams panhandling on the side of a road. In the video, Williams showed off his impressive vocal skills.

Williams, a Brooklyn native, then explained how he trained to be a radio announcer before getting involved with drugs and alcohol, leaving him in his current situation.

"I've been out there about a year; I just didn't know anything like this would ever happen," Williams said earlier in the show. "There's so many words. I've already been compared to [Scottish singing sensation] Susan Boyle ... I'm just so happy."

According to Williams, local police called him "Radio man."

The Cavs' offer wasn't the only one Williams received, however. Support flooded in for his cause, with offers apparently coming from MTV and the actors behind voiceovers for "The Simpsons" and "Entertainment Tonight," amongst others.

"Just to get back to some normalcy and responsibility -- If I can get a job, whether it's a twenty-five or even $18,000, I'd be happy," he said. "At least I know God has me where he wants me."

DAMN! A house? Now that's a signing bonus, and from homeless on top of everything! I'm guessing he's living rent free, but not actually getting a free house? Regardless, it's freaking great!

I'm sure he'll do well. Might need help fixing those pearly yellows tho.

Good on him. I'm glad to see his living situation has improved. Obviously a talented man. Though he should do something about that whack hair. :)

He does have a voice made for radio. Good to see an ex-user get another opportunity in life. A majority of the time they are just left to rot.

Oh please. The Cavaliers did a good thing here. No need to get down on them for it.

I edited my post right after I posted (originally) and added more to the point of good for the individual in allowing him to provide for his family and himself, when people are clamoring for any jobs right now in today's society. But for a sports org to do such a thing, is odd IMO.

This is something you see MTV do more times than not. I mean, look how popular Antoine Dodson (the Hide Yer Wife, Hide Yer Kids) person has become. Anything is possible in America. :usa: lol

The guy announcing the Heat was pretty terrible. Not sure if he was intentionally being so flat or what.

Good for Ted, classy move by Cleveland. That being said, I don't think Gilbert has learned his lesson quite yet. Wouldn't be shocked to see Ted taking his talents to South Beach in a few years.

Luckily for the Cavaliers, you can buy a house in Cleveland for a carton of cigarettes and 15lbs. of scrap aluminum.
Well at least we're not Detroit!
