Are we really not gonna discuss magnificent Tyson Chandler?

Post#1 » by JackFinn » Sun Mar 27, 2011 11:24 pm

per 36: 13.2 pts, 12.0 rebs
TS%: POINT SEVEN

Any Maverick fans care to shed light on what's going on here, and why not an extra 8 minutes?

Tyson Chandler is the best center Dallas has ever had and the teams success relies on him staying healthy. He has been healthy for the most part and his minutes are suitable for regular season play. It could change during the playoffs but having Brendan Haywood allows Chandler to play under 30mpg.

as he is the only real post help defender with dirk on the flour, he gets a lot of early fouls. in addition, he is a high energy guy playing his heart out every time. so it is ok to keep his minutes balanced.

most people think haywood backs him up, but he splits his time often with mahimi or doesnt play at all if they dont play a real center. pity we overpaid him

Chandler has been injury prone in the past. Not playing him heavy minutes in the regular season can only help Dallas.

He had a stretch where he was really really good, right around the all-star break. Becoming a 75+% FT shooter has helped his offensive efficiency.

He missed a few games with a sprained ankle, and been kinda mediocre since he came back from that.

His biggest contribution to the Mavericks has been his leadership.

Dirk may be be an MVP candidate, but from what I can tell, he's not really the vocal guy in the locker room. From what I've heard from the Dallas media, Chandler is that guy.

He seems to have come along way since his teenage days catching alley-oops from Jalen Rose, and I'll be curious to see what he does this offseason.

Does he take a full MLE deal and go somewhere like New York or Miami or some other contender who could use a defensive athletic center, or does he take more money and stay in Dallas.

Wish the Bulls held on to him and played Noah at the 4.

I don't know what all of them are, but I've seen the Mavs run this play early in the game where he comes off a screen and shoots a 17 footer from the elbow, and hits it more times then one would expect.

Well with out doing any more investigating then checking out last games boxscore, it looks like Chandler was 4-7 from the field last game, with 3-5 shots coming in the paint, and 1-2 being jumpers from 15-17 feet.

So, it's probably not their go to play down the stretch, but I guess if you don't guard him, he'll toss one up and hit it every now and then.

Maybe random inside shots are included in the analysis there. Jump hooks, etc possibly. I'm not seeing 61% there. I'm not seeing 45%.

Yeah, 82games is really off with some of their data. Not the first time I've seen that.

Funny thread title. :D

Anyway if you play only to Chandler's strengths he's an extremely effective player, that's been proven both in NO and now in Dallas. If you ask him to do anything outside of his comfort zone, like creating his own offense for example, he becomes significantly less effective. He's a terrific role player, which is what Dallas needed in the C spot, but the super high FG% isn't because he's some magnificent shooter.

FWIW, Chandler is shooting 50% on shots from beyond 15 feet. Takes about one every other game.

I'm seeing 50% on 16-23 footers, but he only makes one about every 3 games.

38% on 3-9 footers.

He's doing most of his damage from the rim or at the FT line.

I imagine anything more than that is just bonus points.

Chandler must have saw this thread before the game tonight and stepped up his performance.

5-7 from the field 6-9 from the line, 16pts 18reb in a win over the Suns.

Big game coming up against the Lakers later this week. 2 seed could be on the line.

I don't know how many more times Cuban can get bit by it ( Haywood and Dampier) along with the ghost of Greg Ostertag.

This is why NBA contracts should be non guaranteed like the NFL, so you can be sure Chandler puts out like this every year.

Great player, but will he do it after he gets paid?

get injured more often as he usually tends to do.

I would love Tyson Chandler on the Heat. It would be a nice fit. Hoepfully he will come here if Nene won't this off season.
