Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant sued by woman who claims he broke promise to marry her
By Nina Mandell
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

An Ohio woman is suing Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, accusing him of breaching a promise to marry her. It was not immediately clear if she realized the superstar had been married for 10 years to wife Vanessa Lane Bryant.

Selina Miller filed the suit last week in Orange County Superior Court, claiming that the married star gave her a "completed and signed agreement" to provide her with a ring, the OC Weekly reported.
Miller, predictably, told the newspaper that she had had intimate relations with Bryant.

"He likes playing games with women more than people know," she told the paper. "I'm upset because he promised me a ring [during one visit], and then some other people influenced him, and I didn't get it. He thinks he can stop by my house any time he wants to. There are other women, too. One of them got a ring." It's not the first time Miller has sued the hoops star. She filed a defamation and invasion-of-privacy suit against Bryant and the NBA, which was dismissed in 2009 as "frivolous."

In an emailed statement to the Daily News, lawyers for Bryant said the hoops player was "aware of the lawsuit filed by Selina Miller and will defend, if necessary, the ridiculous, if not bizarre, allegations contained in the suit.

"Mr. Bryant has never met Ms. Miller and categorically denies all of the allegations in the complaint. From our initial investigation, it appears that Ms. Miller is a serial litigant, who has filed lawsuits against, among others, the Supreme Court of the State of Ohio, the Attorney General for the State of Ohio, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

This woman is sick... She needs help...

The real disgusting individuals in all this are the Lawyers taking/promoting her case and most likely pocketing her money... That's basically grand larceny and should be prosecuted in and of itself... Not to mention the strain it places on an already overburdened court system.

This. Another reminder of how tainted our society is.

Filing a frivolous lawsuit will, at the judge's discretion, subject a lawyer to monetary sanctions. It could lead to disbarment if the violation is serious enough, such as filing a frivolous lawsuit for a plaintiff with a history of bad faith filings and an obvious mental condition...

But you don't need a lawyer to file a lawsuit on behalf of yourself. I did not read anywhere in the article that she was assisted by counsel, did you?

Most likely scenario: this woman has a mental condition. She is probably also broke and sanction proof. Oh well, the legal system can't do anything about that can it? As a general public policy, it is better for courts to allow the filing, but quickly dismiss the case on the pleadings or prior to trial, because even a serial bad faith litigant might eventually have a legitimate claim.

The journalist who wrote the misleading headline, who I presume does not have a mental defect, is the real scum here.
