@PDcavsinsider:

Posing for pix w/ MVP trophy, Irving held it stomach level against his white Cavaliers jersey. He told photogs: "Make sure to get Cleveland"

That says a lot about him. I've watched and read many of his interviews. They guy has education and principles. We know his fame won't destroy him.

What's not to like. The kid just gets it.
Kyrie Irving was posing back stage in his uniform holding the crystal MVP trophy. "Make sure you get Cleveland," he said, referrring to the "CAVALIERS" on his home white jersey.

lol at people comparing Irving to Ray Allen/Reggie Miller after last night. Just be honest and admit that's one of the only games you've seen him play in, because his game is nothing like either of theirs. Calling him "just a great shooter" is complete ignorance.

I was praising him. Never thought that comparing a rookie to 2 legends like Reggie Miller and Ray Allen and even expecting him to be a legit heir would be actually something bad. I didn't make that comment based on yesterday's game. I did it based on what I've seen from him so far. He is no playmaker. He is no scorer at the rim either. His best attribute is his shot. Not his driving, not his ball-handling, not his court vision or passing abilities, not his athleticism; his best attribute is his shot.

Now, if he can do more things on a basketball court than Miller and Allen, that's another story. I know a lot of things they could do that he can't. I was only classifying what could be his NBA career if this had to be successful. It won't be thanks to his playmaking ability or his capacity to score on anyone from any position with great athleticism. It would be thanks to his shot.

And that doesn't mean AT ALL that he is strictly a shooter unable to do other things on an NBA court. Because players who can only shoot are no stars.

.

Kyrie Irvings best attribute is his ability to slash and get to the rim and finish. Hes better at that then he is at shooting. He has one of the highest field goal percentages in the league at the rim, at or above that of guys like Tony Parker and Derrick Rose who are praised for their ability to slash to the rim.

You lose.

I was going to give the guy a break because I think he meant that his legacy would be more like Miller or Allen. But when I read the bold part....... :o

your right Kyrie deserves ROY.. but if Jeremy Lin was a rookie he'd take it hands down, no competition whatsoever.

Not really. He is right. Not many others have put up the type of numbers that Irving has in his rookie year, with the efficiency he is doing it with.

Irving
Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
11-12 CLE 28 31.0 0.476 0.415 0.857 3.5 5.1 0.8 0.6 3.1 2.4 18.1
Curry
Year Team GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG PPG
09–10 Go S 77 36.2 .462 .437 .885 4.5 5.9 1.9 .2 17.5

So, while I know Irving is a very special player(future multiple allstar in my book) and a deserving ROY, anybody saying that Irving or Rubio or whoever is the clear indisputed ROY and no other rookie should be in the disscusion is clearly anon-objective fanboy.

Yea I'm a big fan of both (more so Rubio) but this is NO contest any more. This is Kyrie's award to lose. He's playing at a level that says "why the hell did you pick Rondo over me for the ASG?"

Typical victim mindset from a Cleveland fan.

Kyrie just isn't as controversial as the three players you mentioned. Most people know he's a complete stud. There isn't much to discuss when there's general agreement.

Its interesting to note the split in the advanced stats opinion on the ROY, those based on box score stats (PER,WS) like Irving and those based on forms of +/- (RAPM and ASPM) like Rubio.
