Jamal lewis tore his acl in 2001.

In 2003 he came just 35 yards short of the all time single season rushing record. He was one of 6 RB's to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season.

And he at the time broke the record for most rushing yards in a single game.

And that was 11 years ago.

It will be interesting to monitor adrian peterson recover from his ACL injury. His was a lot worse than derricks, and AD relies a lot on shifty movement in his running game.

baron davis laughs at this thread.

what separates rose from b diddy is the mind so he should be fine. if b diddy had rose's mind he would be a top 5 player too.

I think more than anything what an ACL injury does to a player is change his mindset. He has a mental block in himself that doesnt allow him to play as physical as before because hes scared of reinjury.

the only elite player i can think of with a torn ACL was Dominique Wilkins and he didn't look good coming back from injury.

Dominique tore his achillies in 1992, don't think he ever tore his ACL

Bernard King returned from his ACL injury to average over 28 ppg one year

He was a little slow the year after, but this year his athleticism was back to top-notch level and he had one of the best seasons for a cornerback this season.

The fact that Rose is still so young will certainly help.

Lardarius Webb isn't as athletic as before. He can't even run back kicks like he used to.

I thought Nene's was also an achillies tear, not a knee injury

No denying the injury will make you more cautious in general, but the mental block only lasts as long as the physical recovery takes plus getting some healthy gametime under the belt. Then it's business as usual.

Rose will be fine... He's still young and if rehabbed right he should be able to regain his MVP form. I agree with what that one poster said though, he should abandon that jump hop step crap

It's not about "what top player successfully came back".

It's more of...

"What top player who RELIES on his athleticism/explosiveness, successfully came back".

I'm sorry, im not a Rose hater, but I just don't see him regaining form. I think this is Francis 2.0 unless Rose changes his game. He's not like a CP3 who also has an extremeley high IQ, elite passer, etc. who doesn't need to rely on only explosiveness. A guy like Rubio will probably come back just fine since he's a smart and skilled player, not just explosive.

Fully agree. I've torn my ACL and partially torn my MCL & LCL and for about a year I literally only did the rehab and a bit, hardly pushed myself because I was scared about damaging my knee again. After I realised it would be fine there's nothing that I could do before that I can't do now. And I'm not a pro-athlete with world class care & rehab. D-Rose will be fine, technique and graft work has come a long so much even over the past 5 years. With his drive and determination and also the support available to himself, he'll be great.

He'll be okay, but he has to drastically change his game. I would always cringe when he goes up for a layup or dunk because he lands so damn awkward.

An he was like one of the Greatest College Players ever. Then of course later turning into a NBA all star.

Bad example, if I recall correctly, you missed out the most important part. In his prime, he went to the Suns, tore his ACL right after and was basically done...

rose may not have chris paul's level of basketball iq but his basketball iq is much higher than what steve francis's was. bad comparison.
