http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2012/st ... -criticism"I'm not making no adjustments, regardless of what anybody says," Westbrook said Saturday before the Thunder's practice. "I'm going to play my game regardless of what happens."
Teammates and coach Scott Brooks, however, have been staunch in defending Westbrook's play.
"We need Russell to score. I know some (people) don't like that," Brooks said. "He got off to a bad start but he came back. Him and Kevin are both terrific players, they both have to score points for us to be successful. I don't look at who gets more, who doesn't get more. I look at the quality of the shots. Could Russell have taken two or three better shots? Absolutely. Going into (Game 3), hopefully that's the case."
Said Durant: "Everyone thinks he should be a traditional point guard like a (John) Stockton. There's a lot of people that cannot be like Russ either. Of course he's going to make mistakes."
"It's just something that comes along with the territory," Westbrook said. "We're in the NBA Finals now and the more negative you hear, the better you're doing. That's how I look at it."
I want the Thunder to win, but this just makes me respect Westbrook less. "The more negative you hear, the better you're doing"....what? When HOFers speak, you should listen...smh.

Damn, he's gonna be a completely new player if he's not making no adjustments.

Only thing he should do more is pass to harden more. Scott needs to switch harden and westbrook .

The more shots Westbrook takes away from Durant the better off the Heat are IMO.
Go for it Westbrook.

Congratulations to the Heat on their championship this season. Post-season basketball is about the team who can make the proper adjustments, including in-game adjustments. Westbrook is demonstrating his youth at this point...

when should he listen? in game 1, HOFers were saying how tremendous he was, in game 2 people had issues with him. He is one of the main reasons that OKC is in the finals. people need to get over it. He isnt the old throw back traditional PG.

Good. I'm liking him more and more. He has the tools to be a scoring PG and is very good at it. He needs to play to the best of his abilities, not to what everyone else wants him to be.
Without him playing his game OKC doesn't get in this position. Don't fix what ain't broke.

He made some mistakes but it happens, the same way shooters going into a slump happens. His style of play is a problem for the Thunder's opponents and opens up things for his teammates. He got a LOT of wide open looks which were converted by his team. Without him KD would not be nearly so efficient. He's averaging 9 assists and has a bad shooting percentage so far in this small sample size.
Westbrook was also a big reason for the Thunder coming back in game 1. He is the one that brought them back and gave them the lead starting in the 3rd quarter.
"It's just something that comes along with the territory," Westbrook said. "We're in the NBA Finals now and the more negative you hear, the better you're doing. That's how I look at it."
Russell is absolutely right when the negativity is coming from SAS and Skip Bayless, their criticism has a positive correlation with team and individual success.

Good for Westbrook. Don't let the media mess you up. As long as he just plays his game, he'll be just fine.

RealGM, where trading the worst contract in the league for a #2 pick happens.

my thoughts exactly.
I've been yearning the day we get another star with this attitude, reminds me of this quote from one of my favorite players..
“I don’t give a [expletive] what you say,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports late Friday. “If I go out there and miss game winners, and people say, ‘Kobe choked, or Kobe is seven for whatever in pressure situations.’ Well, [expletive] you.
“Because I don’t play for your [expletive] approval. I play for my own love and enjoyment of the game. And to win. That’s what I play for. Most of the time, when guys feel the pressure, they’re worried about what people might say about them. I don’t have that fear, and it enables me to forget bad plays and to take shots and play my game.”
we've got another AI/Kobe on our hands, I love it.
