When I was in high school in Alameda CA, our band played at one high school game all year. The game that St. Joseph (a private HS in Alameda) came to visit. And who was on that team? Jason Kidd, a guy everyone and their mother knew was going to be an NBA star.

What was comical is my high school (Encinal) had a fairly lousy team that year (I think JR Rider played a bit for Encinal a year or two before I went there....on another note Encinal has produced some great baseball players, like Willie Stargell, Jimmy Rollins, and Dontrelle Willis...I went to school with Rollins but didn't know him at all). And Kidd and Co. were just laying the hammer down and everyone in the gym was just oohing and ahhing at all the alleyoops and stuff, even as they were happening against our school.

FWIW, Kidd actually became a better player than I thought he'd be. I thought he'd be good, but I didn't think he'd be a HOFer, but he's a lock now I think.

I had high hopes for Gerald Green & Dorrell Wright.

A friend of mine thought Sebastian Telfair & Darius Miles were going to be great.

Avery Bradley was the #1 SG college recruit. He's panning out nicely.

Bayless, remember all those youtube mixtapes? Made him look like Rose-like, I had high hopes on him and thought he would be a guarantee 4th pick (Thunder drafted Westbrook instead).

I'd like to add Martell Webster, J.R. Smith and Al Jefferson to this list.

Yeah, remember how he was supposed to be adding to an already loaded Arizona team, which was going to assure them a title that year? LOL..if only they could've stayed around for Derrick Williams' freshman year..

Eddy Curry - he had Shaq's body, and Shaq's athleticism, a 7 footer who could do a back flip.

James White - i knew that he didn't have the ball handling that MJ or TMac had, but it thought for sure he was going to be the next Dr J, Kobe, or Vince.

For me Darius Miles was the most hyped players that never panned out. I was hoping he would fall to the Bulls at 4 in the 2000 draft. Boy was I wrong

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 10 years with the new kids coming up. Most notably the "best high school basketball player since LBJ" Jabari Parker. Being from CHI, I hope this kid pans out and becomes great. There's also another CHI kid who I think is going to be highly touted in the next few years similarly to Rose and Parker in Jahlil Okafor. He's already 6'11 as a soph and if he can figure out how to get in shape, watch out.
