Post-Trade Power Rankings: Here are my top ten

Post#1 » by Beard » Sun Aug 12, 2012 4:51 pm

For the 2012/2013 Season

1. Miami Heat: Don't underestimate a proven champion, especially with a shored up bench.
2. Los Angeles Lakers: Best off-season in recent memory for a team that was already a contender. Only Kobe can bring this team down, IMO.
3. Oklahoma City Thunder: Great run last year and with their youth they will continue to improve. Maybe one little piece away from competing with the above teams.
4. Memphis Grizzlies: Incredible depth, good chemistry of players who are very familiar with one another, and don't have any real discernible weakness
5. Brooklyn Nets: Some may take issue with contracts they handed out in the offseason, but it's hard to really question the talent they now have on their team.
6. Los Angeles Clippers: This team goes as far as Chris Paul takes them. Blake Griffin still has room for improvement in the skill and finesse department, but until then, he will continue to star in highlight reels and internet memes alike with his fantastic dunks and atrocious flops.
7. San Antonio Spurs: An aging team, but with a solid core who whilst their dynamic is evolving relative to their respective ages, it is still very much intact. Hard to underestimate them with proven champions Popovich, Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili. Leonard and Green have fit wonderfully in this Spurs system.
8. Indiana Pacers: they made their big jump last year with a group of young players making a statement in the playoffs against Miami. They wisely retained Hibbert and replaced Collison while giving George Hill the undisputed reigns at PG. Will only get better and I expect Paul George is poised for a great season this year.
9. Denver Nuggets: Denver has become one of the most exciting teams in the league to watch. Iguodala will complement Gallinari as McGee, Faried, Lawson and Chandler keep growing and Andre Miller contributes with his veteran savvy.
10. Philadelphia 76ers: Iguodala's departure allows Turner and Holliday to grow. Bynum will capitalize on being the best center in the Eastern conference and will be given more of a central role in the offense than he had on the Lakers. This is still a very young team with coming off the second round of the playoffs and is eager to prove they will be a threat for years to come.

No Celtics in your top 10?

Hell no - they hit their stride at exactly the right time last year which is lucky. They were even owned in the regular season by teams like the Sixers. Streaks shouldn't be overrated and age shouldn't be underrated. Ray Allen's departure will hurt more than people think. Also, giving Jeff Green that contract is quite baffling. Steamer is gone. They will be weaker for sure. Team like the Pacers who is really young will be improving while the Celtics fade away.

Seriously now, did you actually forget the Celtics. Even if you are a hater, assuming the teams are all healthy they should at least be at number 8, above the Pacers. However they are 4th imo right now, a distant one at that, sure, but still they have better chances than the Grizzilies.

The Celtics are worse than the Knicks IMO, who aren't even in the top ten. T-Wolves, Raptors, and Jazz are even above them.

You must be a troll.

Rondo/Dooling
Bradley/Terry/Lee/Christmas
Pierce/Green/Joseph
Bass/Sully/Wilcox
KG/Collins/Melo

That team is a top 2 team in the east.

They will have another amazing series against the heat this season.

Ray < Lee + Terry + Healthy Bradley.

One of the deepest teams in the league and will be a top 5 defense once again.

If anything they are a much deeper and more talented team than last season considering some of the guys like Pavlovic and Hollins actually had to play minutes in the playoffs.

Edit: Worse than the knicks? The same Knicks that lost out on Lin and other than a better backup C and slightly better guard rotation remained largely the same?

The knicks will be lucky to finish 2nd in the division.

Also, AGE? AGE? They have three guys playing major minutes who are "old". KG + Pierce + Terry are all solid players still and KG was arguably a top 5 player in the playoffs last season. Any other older players on the team will be playing minimal minutes and aren't a factor.

Add in the rest of the roster: Rondo, Bradley, Lee, Green, Sully, Melo, Joseph...I can keep going. They are one of the best blends of vets with young talent in the league. Not the best team overall, but a top 2 team in the east and a legit title contender.

Absolutely not - this team is done for. I'll bet my signature, avatar, five dollars on paypal, whatever - on the fact that the Celtics will NOT make the playoffs.

Why exactly is Memphis @ #4? No celtics? :nonono:
I also personally would put Lakers @ #3, let's see how they play first. They have a very good chance of beating the Thunder but is in no way going to be a cakewalk.

These days everyone with a dissenting opinion is called a hater and troll, eh? It's not like OP is saying the Celtics will finish last.

Please don't take sports so seriously. My dad still can't sleep when his teams aren't doing well. It's tough to think about. Don't kill yourself dude. It's called a re-building stage. All teams go through it.

Thank you! It seems like conform or be forced to debate with homers. You can disagree, but there is a ton of evidence that suggests the Celtics are a lotto team this year.

The Celtics didn't rebuild. They retooled. I'd say they did a pretty damn good job after losing Ray to their in-conference rivals.

Children, come on. We all know that we do not need to explain something to people like this.

Yes, I agree. We were done 2 years ago, and now we're just lucky to be better than the Bobcats
