Carmelo is a really good player and all, but watching Knicks game, I just don't see MVP level of play. Knicks record is based on good coaching and a huge defensive team. His MVP contention is like Derrick Rose on 2011.

Sure, being the most talented player on the best team in the league is a legit argument to being MVP, but he's clearly playing not as good as other guys, Knicks record are certainly result of great team play. Give them CoY award. If they continue playing at this level, they can win the ring.

But give MVP to a mid term between team success, individual impact and best individual performance. 2011 it really should've been won by either Howard or LeBron. 2013 to me, is deserved by one of LeBron, Durant and CP3. MVP productivity, winning teams, carry huge loads on their teams...

His field goal percentage is within 13 percentage points of his free throw percentage. I don't know if any perimeter player that I can remember was that good from the field and that bad from the line. Rondo maybe?

Most of his field goals come from layups and dunks. He was abysmal in the playoffs last year from mid-long range aside from 1 game against Boston.

Once his athleticism declines, he will be noticably worse as you can see in Wade already.

i have only seen him play against rockets and 1st half of nuggets game and he hit a bunch of jumpers...against rockets he was hitting 3s too.

I dont know what lebron you've been watching but but most of Lberons points this year have been from the perimeter and not layups and dunks.

If Wade keeps playing the way he does then LeBron could get another MVP under his belt

Correction, "If Wade keeps playing the way he does Lebron may not get another MVP". Not this season anyway, why? because they're gonna lose many more games because of his lack of effort which would mean a less justifiable win record for Lebron's claim for the award. People shouldn't overlook how much importance voters place on team record in MVP voting. You can argue all day if the criteria is right or wrong, but that's just how it is.

Carmelo needs to have some big number games to get back in this race, he's slowly falling behind and needs to impose his will on these lesser teams and get some 35, 10, 8 games under his belt.

So far I have Rudy Gay in the West..He put up crazy number against Lebron, Melo and Durant. He's having a great season. I know it does help that he has the best FC in the NBA..

Carmelo isn't even close to MVP. Subpar shooting percentages and less than 2 assists per game don't stand out as MVP-level stats. It's not like he scores more than LeBron either. LeBron is drastically better at literally every category there is. Currently LeBron is the runaway #1 (though that could change later on), followed by Paul/Kobe/Durant in some order.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how exactly is LeBron a runaway at this point?

OKC 7-3
Miami 7-3

Durant 25/10/4/2/2 62 TS% leading league in defensive win shares
LeBron 25/9/7/1/1 59 TS%

Because defensive win shares are not a good stat to point to a guy and say "Player A has more win shares than Player B therefore he's a better defensive player". LeBron is also making huge clutch plays at the end of close games for wins. As far as comparing stat lines, LeBron has 5 more PER than Durant does. That isn't a small gap.

Opposing SF's have a 56.4 eFG% against LeBron up to this point and a PER of 14.4
Opposing SF's have a 44.4 eFG% against Durant up to this point and a PER of 7.4

Durant is averaging twice the amount of blocks/steals and players are shooting a laughable 17% vs him in ISO sets.

Clearly the defensive gap is ASTRONOMICAL.

As for crunch time, Durant is shooting 56% with a whopping 67 TS%. Clearly he's lacking in the clutch/end of games.

Finally PER...According to PER, Jordan wasn't even close to the league's MVP from 95-98. As a matter of fact, according to PER Davis Robinson should have been a 3X MVP winner and is the 4th greatest player of all time.

20/6/2 on 49 TS%...those aren't even all star worthy numbers

3. Carmelo Anthony
4. Kevin Durant
5. Zach Randolph
6. James Harden
7. Tony Parker
8. Kobe Bryant
9. Rajon Rondo
10. Brandon Jennings

No Duncan? Joke list

TP shouldn't even be on the list IMO. Once Lakers start winning, Kobe finishes top 5

Not to mention Gasol and Randolph are obviously playing better on the same team.
