Is Thomas Robinson a complete bust?

Post#1 » by CBB_Fan » Thu Nov 8, 2012 10:40 pm

Right after the college season ended, most people though TRob was the #2 pick. By the time of the NBA draft, people though he was a steal (and potential RoY candidate) at #5 to the Kings.

Right now, he isn't even in the Rookie Top-10, averaging 4.4 PPG (on 40% shooting) and 3.6 RPG. That puts him at 16th in PPG for rookies. Worse, he is about to be the first rookie suspended for dirty play because of an elbow thrown in the Kings-Pistons game that ended up hitting the opposing players neck.

It seems like his stock is free-falling. Do you feel he is a bust?

Do you feel it is fair to say that so far he has failed to live up to any expectations then?

At the beginning of the preseason people were talking about how he was looking like a good player and now he's a bust after 4-5 games into the regular season?

Stop kneejerking and wait at least 40 games before calling someone a bust, sheesh.

I posted this because I've heard a TON of people saying that he is a bust. I didn't post it on a whim. I wanted to see if people generally thought that, or if it was mostly that I was hearing the most negative opinions.

Austin Rivers is averaging more points, blocks, steals, and assists per game than Thomas Robinson.

Are you saying that you think he is Artest 2.0, or that he isn't?

Alright. So your comment "what are those guys even thinking" was towards the Kings?

no, i mean artest and robinson. wtf are they thinking when beating up their opponents? but yes, a rookie with that kind of mentality is nothing i'd want on my team.

Nothing indicates that he will be a bust yet. For the most part he has an instant positive impact as soon as he steps onto the court. His hustle is incredible. He is still raw and forces things too much but he should improve with time. His defense has been surprisingly good. Oh, and keep in mind those stats are based on 13.6 minutes per game. He grabbed 7 boards in the 12 minutes he played last night.

Well, he is 16th among all rookies in PPG (just above Pablo Prigoni), 12th in rebounding, 23rd in BPG, and 23rd in MPG. Those numbers don't change much if we account for the MPG difference.

He shouldn't graded against every rookie though. He should be graded as a #5 draft pick. If I had to draft rookies knowing what I do now, I wouldn't take TRob in the lottery. Before the draft, people were predicting him as the second best rookie in the draft, and a RoY contender. Right now, he isn't on the All-Rookie Second Team.

I'm not saying he is a bust, but I am saying that he hasn't been a #5 pick so far. Maybe his next game (after he serves his suspension) he'll blow me away and put 20 points and 15 rebounds on the board. I hope so. I was one of his biggest supporters.

Well, I can pretty much guarantee that he won't be putting those numbers up unless one of Cousins, Hayes, or Thompson is injured.

He's hardly even playing, and when he does, he's in the last option on offense, so how exactly is he supposed to put up those 20 points and 15 rebounds on a team that already has Cousins, Evans, Thornton and Aaron Brooks? Is Drummond a bust too?

Way too early. Besides 4/4 in only 14 min is actually good production. Its a dbl-dbl per36. He's basically got the same exact stats and minutes as Drummond so far.

He is a rookie big man five games into his career. He is a long way from being a "bust."

As far as his elbow goes, I don't condone it in any way but he's a young guy and this is his first time acting out. I''m not really worried about his character. His 2 game suspension should be sufficient enough to get his head straight.

He's a good rebounder already and the rest could be variance. He'll pick it up soon.
