Harden, Batum, Asik or Larry Sanders (last year 3.6 / 3.1 with 1.5B, this year 9.4 / 8.3 with 2.4B, arguably Bucks best big man)

Not that I think he's a top candidate anyway but would Kirilenko be eligible?

I think that most of these players haven't improved as much as they've gotten more minutes.

But in terms of actual improvement, it's got to be Kemba.
And I'm an Asik homer

After that, I'd say Serge, and although he has the same skill set, I swear what I've seen from JR Smith is completely different than the past: the dude is actually playing smart. It's weird.

I always liked his game, now I'm pissed he's not a Bull.
And yes I'm a Bulls fan, but MAN has Joakim been playing out of his damned mind this year.

Eligible as in disregard the one season he was playing overseas. As I said, he's not a (top) candidate, at best a honorable mention, if you disregard that one season in Russia. I just wonder if, theoretically speaking, AK posted stats of, say, 16/7/5/2/2 that if he was eligible to be a candidate with one year away from the NBA.

Didn't AK47 win it once already, back when he was with the Jazz?

I think my pick, based on stats so far, would be Asik, just because I see it as an award for guys who come out of nowhere, rather than for guys like Harden, who go from good to great. But that's just a matter of taste...

what about Lance Stephenson? His shooting has really improved, .592 TS%, 49% from the field, and 45% from 3

He may not win MIP at the end of the season but it's weird you haven't mentioned Goran Dragic yet:
In my opinion he is a current candidate and I predict that he would remain one until the end of the season: from a rotation player with a potential in houston last season to a 1st option point guard and play maker in current year's phoenix that in my prediction will fight for a playoff place in the west until the end of the regular season.

last season's stats: 11.7 ppg 2.5 rpg 5.3 apg 1.3 spg 46.2% FG 33.7% 3P 80.5% FT in 26.5 mpg
This season's stats: 16.3 ppg 2.9 rpg 7.3 apg 2.0 spg 47.4% FG 34% 3P 71.2% FT in 33.5 mpg

Jrue is a serious candidate, up there with Mayo and Asik

Jamal Crawford

Over 20PPG in less than 30 MPG so far. Unreal.

This is the first off-season he said that he has actually worked on his game, maybe the hard work in the summer helped.

Imagine if he already did this 8 years ago, he would have been a top 3 SG in todays game, but his defense is still quite a joke sometimes.

Asik is clearly the most improved till now... and by far, surprisingly improved drastically the freebies too...

Vucevic and E'Twaun Moore saw big improvements statistic wise from their rookie seasons but I don't know if they'll keep the current pace(especially Moore) so I didn't add them

Jordan and Ibaka score more(3 ppg Jordan ,5 ppg Ibaka),but are actually rebounding less and blocking shots at a similar rate as last year.

Mayo has a big improvement statistic wise from last year, but he had a big rookie season and I don't consider him necessarily most improved..he had it in him

Meanwhile, all the players I listed above are having by far, their best season, production wise

I agree that Mayo is sort of returning to his rookie game, but if he continues to average +50% from 3 (huge and unlikely if), he gets it. And Harden is fool's gold. He's getting more time and the offense goes through him now. He's scoring more, but much less efficiently. This isn't the "Most Used Player" award. He hasn't shown improvement if he's missing an extra 10% more of his shots.

I like Batum and Mayo so far for this award. It's pretty wide open though, alot of good candidates.
