Can Lakers make to the playoffs in wild wild west?

No, this team struggles so hard, it's hard for them to make to the playoffs this season

Not sure, I have to wait and see, Steve isn't in the lineup yet.

"Yeah we suck and we will implode from within!" is what he should've said.

I know it's looking bad, but we've weathered tougher times guys. Let's just tuck and roll with the punches...together. All Star Weekend is when the Lakers usually pick it up so right now we just need to keep our heads above water and close enough to the hook that come ASW, we're able to throw a rope on it and swing into the postseason.

The problem isn't just the Lakers' underachieving. But that the West has gotten even tougher.

Right now, going off Hollinger's rankings, SAS, OKC and LAC are on another level, at least 3ppg per game better than any other team. For one, LAC was not expected to make that jump into the elite stratosphere.

But then you have Denver (okay, expected) and Houston (unexpected), followed by GSW (unexpected) and MEM (Expected). That's seven teams right there! Who are they gonna jump?

I would trade Howard, they would get the most for him out of anybody on the Lakers right now.. They could get an all star, and 2 decent players that can shoot and play d.. Play Small, surround Kobe and Gasol with shooters, and have Nash running the point.. their defense will probably still suck, but Mike will be happy with the offense and maybe they can win some games just by outscoring their opponents

Howard is a free agent in a few months. Nobody is going to trade for him.

Teams would trade for him but his value is severely diminished due to his contract status. The value would depend on Dwight letting the team trading for him if he would consider re-signing with them

It is one thing to be 500 team, however the problem Lakers has right now is that they can't sneak in playoff by win the pacific division. (Which means they actually need to beat Portland, Utah and Minny on record.

Brooklyn would without a second thought. Not sure Brook Lopez, Marshon Brooks, Kris Humphries and a lot of first round picks help the Lakers all that much though, probably make them worse on defense.

They have to go 30-19 to win 45 games. That's a winning percentage of 61.2%. I'm using 45 wins as the cutoff, because last year's 8th seed was on pace for 45 wins in a full regular season, and the current 8th seed is on pace for 45 wins.

I think that's going to be tough, honestly, with their chemistry issues, their age, Howard's health, and their defense. But who knows, stranger things have happened.

Depends on how bad this torn labrum D12 just got diagnosed with. If he misses 2+ weeks, it could be rough. That's a lot of games to miss and LA needs as many as they can get.

Wow looks like Pau/Hill AND Dwight are out. That's pretty much their whole front court. Also a torn labrum is going to take way longer than 1 week to heal. I believe it is usually 3+ weeks.

Looks like Phx is pretty much guaranteed another lottery pick this year.

Take it for what its worth but Odom had the same injury as a Laker and was out 3 weeks...Before that Odom suffered the same injury and had surgery and missed 2 months. WOW

which makes their pick of Marshall so magnifying. He sucks so much. Instead of have g a decent prospect developing with 2 picks coming they just have nothing and 2 picks coming. Maybe they just can't draft in phoenix like the bucks

At this point, I just don't see how it's possible. They've been bad from the start, going all the way back to preseason. They'd have to win two games for every loss from here out just to have a chance.

I still thought they could stay slightly under .500 for a few more weeks and still turn it around but they may be officially screwed with the news today.

Cleveland must be rooting for the Lakers to miss the playoffs. That means a higher pick for them.
