Can Lakers make to the Playoffs this year?

Post#1 » by Jaykoolzboy » Wed Dec 12, 2012 1:05 am

This team is so hard to watch, no flows, no desire, no goal. This is a serious question I am asking since western conference is as tough as ever this season. Can the Lakers make to the playoffs this season?

Playoffs picture for WC

Guarantee locks
Clippers
Grizzles
OKC
Spurs

Should be in
GSW (With the way they are playing right now, I doubt they will miss the playoffs)
Dallas (Dirk is on the edge of coming back)

So you have 2 more slot left

Lakers have to compete with
T'Wolves (very close to Should be in if Ricky Rubio is in pre-injury form)
Utah
Denver
Houston
Portland (they've been playing well lately)

for the last 2 slots, I mean those are quality teams, I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow miss the playoffs this season. However, I still voted yes they will make it this season

Some updated Stats

For the last 5 years the average win for a 8th seed in WC is 47.878, lets just assume it's 48 wins. Lakers have to win 60.36 percent of the game left to be the 8th seed.

I'm starting to think this is a serious question.

Yes, they are just missing Nash's perimeter D now.

I voted yes. Come on now that team can't miss the POs. That goes against everything I believe in basketball. But that would be funny :)

Mike Brown wasn't even close to the problem.

No, he was a problem. Age, injury, poor depth, a bad fit between various star players, Mike D'Antoni's offense being unsuited to this lineup, bad freethrow shooting and pretty bad D are other problems. They've still got enough talent to get in, but it's no sure thing... it never is in the ultracompetitive West unless you're at the very top.

When does the blame fall on Kobe? Or he gets a pass?

Wow...It's something to take noticed that almost 4 months ago, the Lakers were looked to be the next and biggest contender for a nba championship. From a team that many were considereding a 60plus team win to somehow question whether or not they are playoff bound...That's NBA for you, sometimes you just don't know what could happen.

How many General Board folk were crowing about a Lakers-Heat finals again?

Neither team looks favored to come out of their conference now.

I think everyone pretty much agreed that only injuries could stop them. The entire team is built on 4 players, and 2 of those players are out.

I know defense is an issue, but look up how many points the Lakers are giving up off of turnovers. There has to be a stat for this somewhere. They're basically spotting their opponents 15-20 points every game because of their turnovers. I never realized Dwight had bricks for hands. I was always under the impression he had great hands but dude can't catch a pass. It's not as bad as KWAH-MAY BROWN but it's pretty bad.

Considering his usage, his turnovers have never been a problem. Look at his assist:to ratio.

at halftime tonight:

Kobe: 16 points, 7/10 FG

Rest of team: 23 points, 7/25

Lakers losing by 15.

This has been a trend this season. I know blaming Kobe is a popular thing to do around these parts, but he's been playing very good basketball this year. When he passes 30 points it's going to be his fault if they lose, right? :nonono: Defense is a team concept and the breakdowns have been from all over the floor. I don't know why all of a sudden Kobe gets the full weight of the blame for their defensive troubles.
